Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Leaked Ho-Oh Ex Finally Breaks a 9-Month Trend

Yesterday, July 22nd, turned out to be an exciting day for the vast Pokemon community, largely due to the Pokemon Presents broadcast that showcased additional content for games within the series as well as a brand new game titled Pokemon Friends. However, there was a conspicuous absence of Pokemon TCG Pocket in this presentation. Although an official announcement regarding its A4 July set is yet to be made, shortly after the Pokemon Presents broadcast, a trailer for this expansion surfaced on the official Italian Pokemon YouTube channel. This trailer offered a sneak peek at the cards expected in the upcoming release. Unfortunately, the trailer was later removed; however, some dedicated fans were able to capture videos and screenshots of the new cards, including the highly anticipated Ho-Oh Ex card that could potentially revolutionize gameplay.

Just as many fans had anticipated, the A4 set will concentrate on the critters and region of Johto in the Pokemon TCG Pocket. Gen 2 was frequently the most desired alongside Gen 3, so it’s no surprise that it’s being released. Notably, the set includes a booster pack dedicated to Ho-Oh and another for Lugia. The set is called “The Way of Sky and Sea,” and considering its themed boosters center around Ho-Oh and Lugia, they are both expected to receive the Ex treatment and potentially an immersive one as well. While Lugia Ex becomes formidable when partnered with its counterpart, Ho-Oh Ex is a force on its own and provides a viable deck option for the first time.

Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Leaked Ho-Oh Ex Marks a Massive Shift For The Game

In Pokemon TCG Pocket, multi-Energy deck strategies often face an inherent disadvantage due to the game’s random Energy assignment system. Every turn, the game randomly selects one type of Energy from the available pool (up to three types), which can lead to inconsistent deck performance. For instance, with only two Energy types, players may encounter matches with no Energy of a specific type or matches where the sequence is flawless. This unpredictability in Energy distribution significantly impacts the consistency and effectiveness of multi-Energy decks.

Why The Leaked Ho-Oh Ex is a Big Deal in Pokemon TCG Pocket

The recently leaked Ho-Oh Ex in the Pokemon TCG Pocket game offers a fresh approach through its Turbo Phoenix attack, which demands three Energy cards of any type to be activated, inflicting 80 damage and subsequently enabling the player to attach one Fire, one Water, and one Lightning Energy card to any mix of basic Pokemon. As a result, players can now construct a multi-Energy deck for the first time since the game’s launch on October 30 of last year, marking a significant achievement. It’s important to mention that Ho-Oh Ex imposes certain restrictions on deck construction, as it is only capable of producing Fire, Water, and Electric Energy cards.

Although it might not offer Energy to non-basic Pokemon directly, Ho-Oh EX could still significantly boost deck constructions. Players might want to experiment with it when the set is released, if the trailer is authentic and not manipulated. Unlike other Pokémon, Ho-Oh EX doesn’t provide Energy to non-basic Pokémon, but this can be bypassed using items like Rare Candy for Stage 2 cards. This would allow you to have a Charmander and Dratini on the bench when Ho-Oh EX attacks, accumulating Fire Energy for Charizard EX in the Pokemon TCG Pocket game, and both Water and Lightning Energy for Dragonite or Dragonite EX.

It’s clear that Ho-Oh EX complements the leaked Lugia EX card, as it needs one Fire, one Water, and one Electric Energy to launch an attack.

As a gamer, I’m thrilled about this game-changer! With Ho-Oh Ex in my deck, I can focus on running one specific type of Energy and let Ho-Oh Ex generate the rest! This opens up a world of possibilities because I can choose any Energy type, not just the three that Ho-Oh Ex usually produces.

Take Leafeon Ex from Triumphant Light for instance; it generates Grass Energy for itself! With Ho-Oh Ex, I could even give all three Energy types to a single Pokémon, making a card like Arceus EX ready to attack with just one activation in Pokémon TCG Pocket. The potential is limitless, and I can’t wait to see where this card takes us!
