In Overwatch 2, the Midtown map has been temporarily taken out of service due to a glitch making cars invisible on lower graphics settings. As a result, this Hybrid map is currently absent from both Unranked and Competitive play modes in Overwatch 2, and there’s no estimated time for when it will be reintroduced.
One of the novel Hybrid maps, Midtown, was unveiled alongside the launch of Overwatch 2 in 2022. Situated in New York City, Midtown is characterized by its close-quarters combat scenarios and scarcity of spots for stealthy eliminations. Notably, during Overwatch 2’s Pride event in June, it dons vibrant rainbow decorations.
It appears that during the mid-Season 17 update for Overwatch 2, a problem arose in Midtown which is severe enough to make it unplayable at present. Players discovered that certain vehicles parked in Midtown were not visible on lower graphics settings. As a result, Overwatch 2 has temporarily suspended gameplay in Midtown for both competitive and casual modes until the problem can be fixed.
Midtown Map Temporarily Disabled in Overwatch 2
Currently, we don’t have any news about when Midtown will be repaired and reintroduced into the game rotation. The Aatlis Flashpoint map was first introduced in Season 17 but wasn’t playable in 6v6 matches due to a problem that took a whole month to fix. Despite Overwatch 2 trying to solve this issue in its July 8 update, it couldn’t until the mid-season update. It’s possible that Midtown could come back with a quick fix soon, but it might stay absent until Season 18 or later.
Previously, Midtown has experienced disabling in Overwatch 2, and this occurred during the rollout of Season 6 when an unspecified problem caused it to be largely inoperative for much of the season. This incident transpired in August, approximately a month following the removal of the Pride month decorations at the end of June. It’s plausible that these temporary map changes could have played a role in both occurrences.
In a positive light, taking out Midtown increases the chances for gamers to explore the revamped Suravasa and New Junk City. These two maps have undergone significant transformations during the mid-Season 17 update of Overwatch 2, so players can anticipate improved sightlines, more expansive choke points, and added thematic details when they join a match in these zones.
