In “Killing Floor 3,” the focus is on intense, unapologetic violence. However, unlike its predecessors which primarily relied on mindless running and shooting, this game introduces more complexity to the combat system. Alongside the Zed hitzone mechanics, players now need to strategize due to the presence of multiple damage types they must manage effectively.
Instead of merely aiming for Zeds’ faces with whatever you have handy in Killing Floor 3, particularly on its toughest settings, it’s highly beneficial to understand and utilize the various damage types. This guide will walk you through each damage type and suggest optimal scenarios for their application.

Best Damage Type in Killing Floor 3

If you’re searching for a damage type that’s effective against a wide range of opponents, then Force damage could be an excellent choice. It performs well or neutrally against many KF3 Zeds. Force damage excels at destroying Fleshpound parts, although it may have some difficulty in defeating Scrakes. For all other enemies, it works quite effectively.
In addition, Heat is often a great selection for many foes. It not only inflicts substantial damage on Flesh, Zedtech, and Armor but also has a damaging effect over time, making it useful for hit-and-run strategies. However, be aware that Husks and the Chimera boss are resistant to Heat’s damage.
How to Change Weapon Damage Type in KF3
Switch up your weapon’s damage style by adding Ammo modifications using the weapon customization interface. Head over to the Armory within the Stronghold, and craft a desired Ammo modification.
While some weapons can be modified to change their damage type, it’s important to note that this isn’t possible for all types of weapons. For instance, Firebug guns such as the Dragon’s Breath, along with unique weapons like the Ifrit, do not have any available modifications that would alter their damage type.
