Nate Fox and Jason Connell, creative directors for the Ghost of Yotei team, discuss whether the fan-favorite Legends multiplayer mode will be included in this upcoming game. While fans have been gathering a wealth of new details and insights about Ghost of Yotei from Sucker Punch over the past few weeks, there is still some uncertainty regarding the possibility of multiplayer functionality.
In an unexpected twist for fans, Sucker Punch incorporated a multiplayer mode, titled Legends, into the otherwise solo-centric game Ghost of Tsushima. This additional feature allowed four players to collaborate as distinct character classes, fighting off hordes of adversaries. The characters, enemies, and quests were all themed around Japanese folklore and mythology, adding depth and appeal to the gameplay. The Legends mode swiftly gained traction and was warmly received as an engaging expansion to the original game.
One of the lingering questions about the game, Ghost of Yotei, pertains to whether it will feature a multiplayer mode similar to that of its predecessor. In a recent interview, creative directors Nate Fox and Jason Connell were asked directly about Legends potentially returning in Ghost of Yotei, but their answer seems to suggest that this might not happen immediately upon launch. Fox did express satisfaction with the multiplayer aspect of Ghost of Tsushima Legends, but the team is presently engrossed in finishing work for Ghost of Yotei before its release date.
Ghost of Yotei Legends Could Still Arrive Eventually
Although Fox didn’t provide a specific answer about the return of Legends, they didn’t completely dismiss the idea either. Instead, they emphasized their focus on completing the main game before its October release date. However, fans might remember that Legends underwent numerous changes and developments after its debut in 2020. For instance, the Director’s Cut of Ghost of Tsushima introduced new content and a game mode for Legends called Rivals. So, even when Yotei launches, it doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the line for Legends.
Fans may need to be patient for multiplayer updates, but Sucker Punch is enthusiastic about the advancements in the upcoming game compared to its predecessor. In addition to a new assortment of weapons for Atsu, Sucker Punch has focused on keeping Ghost of Yotei‘s expansive world engaging. Atsu can utilize her “Pack of Wolves” feature, allowing her to fight alongside non-player characters, while also delving into their histories. Campfires in the game serve as social hubs where merchants and other intriguing characters can join players, reducing some tedious tasks commonly found in other open world games.
