The developer of the game MindsEye, known as Build a Rocket Boy, has revealed a plan for future improvements aimed at addressing the numerous issues faced by the action-adventure title. Simultaneously, Build a Rocket Boy has also shared that the collaboration between MindsEye and a well-known stealth series will be postponed indefinitely.
Recently unveiled a mere month ago, “MindsEye” marks the inaugural venture of Build A Rocket Boy, a fledgling studio led by ex-Rockstar producer Leslie Benzies, renowned for his work on the Grand Theft Auto series. This upcoming project sparked considerable anticipation, particularly among Rockstar enthusiasts. However, “MindsEye” faced an underwhelming start due to significant technical problems, puzzling design decisions, and a scarcity of substantial content at launch. The aftermath was swift and severe, with approximately 100 employees from Build A Rocket Boy being let go following the disappointing premiere of “MindsEye”.
In response to a barrage of criticism, it appears that Benzies was considering a re-release of the game, MindsEye, with the hope that it would recover from its setbacks. Now, it seems that Build A Rocket Boy is pursuing this idea, as they announced in a recent Reddit post that two updates for MindsEye are planned within the next few months. The first update, called Update 4, will be released in August and will focus on performance improvements, allowing users to skip cutscenes, and providing quick access to user-created content on PC. The second update, Update 5, which is scheduled for September, will reportedly improve the core gameplay mechanics of MindsEye, although the specific details about these changes are currently confidential.
MindsEye’s Hitman Crossover Mission Has Been Delayed Indefinitely
Mindseye Update 4
- Coming August 2025
- Will add skippable cutscenes, performance upgrades, and bug fixes
- Published Player Content will be instantly accessible for PC users
Mindseye Update 5
- Coming September 2025
- Set to deliver performance and gameplay improvements on all platforms
- Numerous enhancements for core gameplay mechanics
The much-anticipated collaboration between Build a Rocket Boy and Hitman, featuring Agent 47, has been postponed. Initially slated for release in July, this crossover event now lacks a specific launch date. However, Build a Rocket Boy assures fans that the Hitman crossover content will be released “at the appropriate time,” suggesting it will debut once the studio has managed to handle a significant portion of the ongoing updates for MindsEye.
Numerous fans are generally dissatisfied with the recent update on the project, expressing confusion as to why Build a Rocket Boy didn’t launch MindsEye in September. This earlier release could have provided the studio additional time for game optimization and potentially prevented the significant reputation loss and layoffs resulting from the hasty release. Despite the reasons behind this decision, it appears that Build A Rocket Boy is striving to salvage MindsEye, with the future yet to reveal whether they can pull off a comeback similar to Cyberpunk 2077 or No Man’s Sky.
