In a recent development, the popular game “Destiny 2” is embroiled in a significant controversy concerning its endgame activities. Bungie, the studio behind the game, has acknowledged investigating allegations of cheating during the Contest mode raid race for The Desert Perpetual. Players were granted access to The Desert Perpetual on July 19 at 10:00 a.m. PDT, marking the start of the World First race.

In addition to fresh content, equipment, and activities, Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate continues Bungie’s practice of introducing a raid and World First race within the initial week of the expansion’s release. Upon finishing the first encounter of Destiny 2’s The Desert Perpetual raid, players found that the raid is not linear. They can engage with different spheres on platforms in the raid’s central area, activating them to gain access to three distinct boss fights that can be conquered in any sequence. Similar to previous raid competitions, Contest Mode was activated for the first 48 hours post-raid launch, and those who completed the raid during this period received a unique emblem, along with all the other rewards from finishing the raid’s encounters. However, it seems that Destiny 2‘s cheating issue has resurfaced again.

On July 25th, Bungie’s official Destiny 2 Twitter account announced that they are investigating allegations of cheating within fireteams who completed The Desert Perpetual during Contest mode. Bungie reminded players that any attempt to manipulate the game through cheating could lead to a ban, and even those who unknowingly teamed up with cheaters may face penalties, potentially including a ban as well. This announcement has stirred debate among Destiny 2 gamers, as they are now verifying their raid clear rankings on the Contest mode leaderboard for The Desert Perpetual to see if their positions have changed significantly. For instance, user T1Khan_ disclosed a jump from 510th place to 172nd, suggesting that many teams might have included cheaters among them.

Bungie Launches Investigation into Destiny 2 Cheating Reports from The Desert Perpetual Raid Race

The ongoing debate has led numerous Destiny 2 players to ponder whether Battleye is a suitable anti-cheat system for the game, given that The Desert Perpetual seems to be the raid most targeted by cheaters. Some players approximate that around 400 out of 600 Contest mode clears contain cheating, and they are urging Bungie to impose harsher penalties on cheaters to ensure future Destiny 2 raid races aren’t tainted in this manner.
