On July 29, Behaviour Interactive, the creators of Dead by Daylight, launched their official collaboration with AMC’s The Walking Dead, as previously announced on July 8. Dead by Daylight has a history of such collaborations, with its developers frequently introducing new content and updates since its debut in 2016.
In the past, collaborations have involved bringing characters from well-known franchises into the game. For instance, Behaviour Interactive added Springtrap from Five Nights at Freddy’s as a playable character in Dead by Daylight last year. Other crossovers for Dead by Daylight released in 2025 include Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Tokyo Ghoul, and Resident Evil, among others.
The newest expansion for “Dead by Daylight” focuses on AMC’s “The Walking Dead.” Two characters, Rick Grimes and Michonne, are now playable Survivors in the game. Additionally, Daryl Dixon is included, but he appears as a Legendary Outfit for Rick rather than a separate character. Both in-game versions of Rick and Daryl have voice acting provided by their original “Walking Dead” actors: Andrew Lincoln voices Rick and Norman Reedus voices Daryl.
Dead by Daylight Launches Crossover With The Walking Dead
In the game Dead by Daylight, each newly introduced Survivor from The Walking Dead series comes equipped with three distinct abilities that showcase their survival skills. For instance, Rick Grimes has options like quietening injured or dying teammates, revealing his location to the Killer, crafting Fragile Barricades from broken ones, and diminishing Scratches and Blood Trails when a fellow Survivor stuns or blinds the Killer. In contrast, Michonne can momentarily stun the Killer with a swift vault, offering an escape chance, revive nearby injured teammates when she breaks or blinds the Killer with her barricades, and quickly heal Survivors to instantly recover from being knocked down.
Fans of the game “Dead by Daylight” can anticipate an exciting new feature: a unique section in the Garden of Joy map inspired by “The Walking Dead”. This area will showcase iconic spots like the prison and the ominous “Don’t Open, Dead Inside” doors from the hospital. With the immense popularity of characters and locations from “The Walking Dead”, it will be intriguing to observe if this update contributes to a new record-breaking player count for “Dead by Daylight”, as it did after its collaboration with “Five Nights at Freddy’s”.
Furthermore, Behavior has suggested that more Walking Dead content might be on the horizon, potentially broadening the scope of collaboration beyond these initial character launches. Additionally, there have been rumors circulating about a potential collaboration between Resident Evil 7 and 8 in Dead by Daylight as part of their upcoming licensed chapter release slated for November.
