On August 1st, Atari and Digital Eclipse announced that the collection titled “Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection” will also feature the beloved game “Mortal Kombat Trilogy“. As this game has several variations with unique characters in each, it is yet to be determined which specific versions of “Mortal Kombat Trilogy” will be incorporated into the compilation within “Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection“.
As a devoted fan, I’d like to share some thoughts about a classic game that made a significant impact on my childhood gaming experience – Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Released back in October 1996 for the PlayStation, it was essentially an enhanced version of Mortal Kombat 3, following the footsteps of its predecessor, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, from 1995.
This extraordinary title combined the gameplay mechanics of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 with stages and characters from the initial two Mortal Kombat instalments. The game also introduced the “Brutality” finisher mechanic, a feature that allowed for more gruesome and intricate finishing moves, along with the Aggressor bar system, which granted temporary boosts in speed and damage to players.
Later on, Mortal Kombat Trilogy was adapted for various platforms such as the Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, and even Windows PCs, ensuring that a whole new generation of gamers could experience its unparalleled fighting action.
After whispers about the potential remastering of Mortal Kombat Trilogy for contemporary gaming systems, fans were taken aback by its appearance in the imminent Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection. The forthcoming Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection, set to be released, will feature Mortal Kombat Trilogy among other titles. Alongside games such as Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Advance, and Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, the trilogy will be part of this expanding assortment. Digital Eclipse and Atari have officially confirmed the inclusion of Mortal Kombat Trilogy with a brief trailer, showcasing physical editions of Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection, which are now available for preorder on Atari’s online store. The Standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s Editions of Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection will be priced at $49.99, $69.99, and $149.99 respectively. The Collector’s Edition will include tangible items such as a Goro controller holder, a commemorative arcade token, and a collectible box.
Mortal Kombat Trilogy Is Included in Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection
The Switch 2 editions of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will cost $10 more than other console versions, according to Atari. Additionally, the Switch 2 version won’t come on a Game-Key Card. Instead, it will have collectible slipcase covers as a pre-order bonus from Atari’s storefront. These slipcases feature characters like Scorpion, Smoke, Reptile, and Sub-Zero. Pre-orders are slated to ship out on December 12, with the option to place orders throughout August.

Despite whispers suggesting that the launch of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection might occur in late September, the developers have set a 2025 release timeline for this compilation instead. As the 2025 Evo fighting game tournament unfolds until August 3rd, it’s anticipated that we’ll learn the precise release date of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection during the upcoming weekend events.
