Tom Holland’s New Spider-Man Movie May Make Homework Out of One Spider-Man Game

Despite varying opinions on the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole, including the latest release of Fantastic Four: First Steps, next year’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day is confidently marketed as another significant shift for its main character, Spider-Man, and potentially the MCU itself. At the very least, it promises to be fascinating to explore what life has been like for Peter Parker since a magic spell wiped out all memories and records of his existence, effectively ending all past relationships he had.

In addition, while not all of these stories might be accurate, there are numerous whispers and previews about the upcoming film “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” that suggest an array of thrilling cameos by characters known as super-villains. Furthermore, today we got an official sneak peek at the new suit that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will don in the movie. Interestingly, one rumor has gained some credibility thanks to a set photo, and if the emblem depicted is indeed tied to the character fans speculate it represents, it might be worth revisiting the initial playthrough of Insomniac’s “Marvel’s Spider-Man“.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is a Terrific But Inaccurate Introduction to Mister Negative

Brand New Day. It should be noted that Mister Negative, created by Dan Slott and Phil Jimenez, is somewhat more well-known than a lesser-known villain like Spot from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

First, Mister Negative made his appearance in the Free Comic Book Day special issue of The Amazing Spider-Man #1 from 2007. Later on, he was introduced in issue #546 of The Amazing Spider-Man in 2008. Currently, you can find Mister Negative in Jonathan Hickman’s run of Ultimate Spider-Man, which spans from January 2024 to December 2025.

Despite his infrequent appearances and less popular status compared to other villains like Doctor Octopus or Green Goblin, it would seem unusual if the comic series “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” overlooked Mister Negative’s complicated and malevolent comic book history in favor of Insomniac’s portrayal of him as a sympathetic character with a tragic past. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has not strictly followed the source material, so Insomniac’s interpretation could be more suitable for inclusion in a potential fourth Spider-Man movie without requiring excessive backstory or explanation about the character.

In the style of Marvel’s Spider-Man storyline, Martin Li might have started FEAST and been patiently planning to release his inner demons onto New York City at an opportune moment. This is where things become intriguing: The “Brand New Day” run of The Amazing Spider-Man comics shares a similar premise, albeit with some creative liberties taken by Marvel’s Spider-Man adaptation. In this version, the bioweapon known as Devil’s Breath serves a comparable role.

The Spider-Man series from Marvel has selectively incorporated other elements of this theme for its adaptations.

It’s quite possible that the armored vehicle’s emblem doesn’t represent an Inner Demon, but given the film’s title, there’s a good chance we might see Mister Negative making an appearance. However, whether the story will follow a specific plot is another matter entirely.

As a devoted fan, I’m leaning towards the Martin Li storyline in Marvel’s Spider-Man, given the dense narrative that seems to be shaping up, potentially featuring appearances by Punisher, Hulk, and Daredevil. With filming ongoing and official updates on the horizon to clear up speculation and leaks, we’ll just have to wait and see how Spider-Man: Brand New Day unfolds.
