On July 31st, Nintendo advised all users of the “Switch 2” to be mindful while playing the new console during the summer’s heatwave, as it may experience issues when used in temperatures surpassing 95°F (35°C). They suggested playing the console only in air-conditioned spaces, referencing a current heat wave occurring in Japan that has caused temperatures to rise above 35°C.
Ever since it debuted on June 5, the Switch 2 has demonstrated its success by selling over 3.5 million units worldwide during its first four days on the market, making it Nintendo’s fastest-selling console to date. As of July 24, this number has surpassed 6 million units sold. The Switch 2 was developed capitalizing on the popularity of its predecessor, prioritizing enhanced hardware and refined control designs. Additionally, the console’s sales have benefited from its backward compatibility with most original Switch games, while its exclusive game library continues to be a contentious topic.
Nintendo Switch 2 Consoles Can Overheat in Summer Temperatures
After the July 31 Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, Nintendo cautioned all Nintendo Switch and potential Switch 2 users about potential issues arising from extreme temperature conditions. As reported by Insider Gaming, the Nintendo Support Twitter feed advised that both the Switch and Switch 2 may malfunction when exposed to temperatures higher than 95°F (35°C) or lower than 41°F (5°C). To avoid such complications, especially during outdoor activities, it’s advisable to play in an air-conditioned environment. Furthermore, it’s crucial to prioritize personal safety during periods of hazardous weather conditions.
To prevent their Nintendo Switch 2 systems from getting too hot, users should position them in an open or well-ventilated location instead of enclosed spaces. Although the Switch 2 doesn’t have a built-in feature to monitor CPU temperatures through its interface, it’s best to keep the console on a shelf or table when docked, rather than confining it within a cabinet that could trap heat. The Switch 2’s dock comes equipped with an extra fan for cooling purposes, so allowing ample room for cool air circulation around the device is strongly advised.
Starting from August 3rd, the costs for Nintendo Switch consoles and their accessories have increased within the U.S. Since it’s expected that prices for the next-gen Switch models and games may increase as well, it would be prudent for users to be mindful when making purchases to prevent unnecessary repair or replacement expenses in the future.
