Michael Mando Uses Instagram To Confirm Marvel Return

Summary

  • Spider-Man: Brand New Day will feature familiar faces like Zendaya and Jon Bernthal, plus a comeback by Michael Mando‘s Scorpion.

  • Fans have eagerly awaited Mando’s return as the Scorpion since his appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Although Avengers: Doomsday is certainly generating equal parts excitement and apprehension among fans, it’s not the next Marvel Cinematic Universe film in production. Instead, that title goes to Spider-Man: Fresh Start, which is assembling a sizable cast of its own.

Fans of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man have been anxiously waiting for his next big screen appearance since “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in 2021. The good news is that they won’t have to wait much longer, as he’s set to return next year. Interestingly, the director of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” Destin Daniel Cretton, will be at the helm for this film. Cretton has an impressive roster of Marvel actors to work with. Besides Holland, we’ll also see Zendaya as Michelle Jones-Watson and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds reprise their roles. The trio will join forces with Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, adding some serious star power to the film. However, what truly piques our interest is the return of Michael Mando’s Mac Gargan, who is better known as the Scorpion.

Michael Mando made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Mac Gargan in 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” and since then, he hasn’t been seen. Recently, it was announced that he will return to cause more trouble for Spider-Man, and Mando himself confirmed this on Instagram over the weekend. Using a caption of “st!ng #spiderman” and sharing an old selfie featuring the scorpion neck tattoo he wore in “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” Mando fueled the excitement surrounding “Brand New Day.” Just another day’s work for the Scorpion.

“Sting,” indeed, Mr. Mando.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have eagerly anticipated the reappearance of Mando’s Gargan (Mac Gargan) since his mid-credits scene with Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes/Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. In this scene, Gargan questioned Toomes about Spider-Man’s true identity, as rumors suggested that Toomes was aware of the person hidden behind the mask. However, Toomes remained tight-lipped, fueling speculation among Marvel enthusiasts for a possible Sinister Six appearance in the future of the MCU. Although Gargan isn’t one of the original Spider-Man supervillains like Vulture, he has been part of various iterations throughout the years.

In the movie “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” Marvel Studios altered Mysterio’s character to resemble more of a Tony Stark antagonist rather than a traditional Spider-Man enemy. Surprisingly, the sequel “Spider-Man: No Way Home” showcased an unofficial group similar to the Sinister Six, comprised of villains from previous Sony movies such as Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, along with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s iterations of Peter Parker.

Regardless, enthusiasts of Mando’s past performances in Far Cry, Better Call Saul, Orphan Black, and indeed Spider-Man: Homecoming can look forward to his thrilling return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit theaters worldwide on July 31, 2026.
