This year, we’ve already witnessed a host of outstanding games emerge, with two standouts being “Mario Kart World” and “Donkey Kong Bananza,” both exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch 2. The highly anticipated game “Borderlands 4” is almost upon us, and while it will be playable across various platforms such as PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, it’s also making its way to Nintendo Switch 2, an unexpected home for
Mentioning Borderlands 4 potentially arriving on the Nintendo Switch 2 is exciting, given the prospect of action-packed looting and shooting while mobile, or even on a Nintendo device. However, it’s important to note that there’s a caveat: Players who intend to play Borderlands 4 solely on the Switch 2 may have to accept a later release date compared to PC, Xbox, and PlayStation gamers. This timing difference might be challenging for some, as they eagerly await their turn to enjoy the game before it becomes available on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Borderlands 4 May Feel Right at Home on Switch 2, If Players Can Stomach the Wait
Portable Borderlands Is the Dream
The concept of mobile gaming has grown significantly in popularity, largely due to the success of the Nintendo Switch, which revitalized interest in this idea by becoming one of the most successful consoles ever produced. Previously, Nintendo was recognized for portable gaming systems such as the Game Boy, DS, and their multiple versions. However, as Xbox and PlayStation began releasing more powerful consoles, mobile gaming took a step back in comparison. But then, the arrival of the Nintendo Switch, despite being less powerful than its competitors, introduced an innovative design that combines both portable and home console capabilities, a robust library of first-party games, and a family-friendly image, which helped it regain the spotlight in the gaming world.

The new Switch 2 model boasts power comparable to the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, while still retaining the qualities that made the first version a hit. This means playing Borderlands 4 on the Switch 2 might become a reality, as it could deliver competitive performance in the console market. Plus, gamers would be able to loot and shoot on-the-go! If Borderlands 4 were ported to the original Switch, it might have been a step down, but with the enhanced capabilities of the Switch 2, it’s taking full advantage of the upgrades, making it an attractive option for both current owners and those planning to play Borderlands 4.
Performance and Timing Create a Rift
As excited as I am to dive into the action-packed world of Borderlands 4 on the Switch 2, it seems like we’ll have to be patient gamers for a bit longer. The game will initially drop on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on September 12, 2025, but us Switch 2 players get to join in the fun around three weeks later on October 3, 2025. The good news is that we’ll be playing the exact same version with cross-play and four-player co-op!

For some individuals, waiting for the release of Borderlands 4 on other platforms like PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S might not appear as much of a delay, but performance and speed significantly differ in this scenario. Although the Switch 2 can run Borderlands 4 more smoothly than its predecessor, it is expected that these other platforms will provide superior performance over time. Consequently, those who own both the Switch 2 and either a PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or a gaming PC may opt to begin playing on day one, taking advantage of better graphics, higher frame rates, and quicker load times. However, this only pertains to individuals who possess multiple consoles or gaming platforms, including the Switch 2. Nevertheless, Borderlands 4 on the Switch 2 promises an enjoyable experience for all players.
