A unique bundle for what appears to be “Borderlands 4” has stirred up trouble once more, as this costly package fails to provide a playable version of the game itself. The release of Gearbox’s upcoming looter shooter has been marked by its fair share of triumphs and setbacks, and it seems that the storm is far from passing. With “Borderlands 4” set to drop in just about a month, the game finds itself back in the limelight for all the wrong reasons.
For several months now, the cost of the game has been a contentious topic among players and enthusiasts. When rumors started circulating about a possible $80 price tag, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford fueled the debate by stating that die-hard Borderlands fans would somehow manage to afford it, regardless of its cost. Although the situation has since been resolved, his comments may still linger in the minds of gamers as they discuss the latest pricing issues surrounding Borderlands 4.
In a recent turn of events, Gearbox Software has been under scrutiny by fans who felt disappointed when they discovered that the game itself was not included in the $149.99 Collector’s Edition. However, it turns out there was a mix-up – what they were referring to wasn’t actually the Collector’s Edition but the ECHO-4 bundle instead. This exclusive offering from GameStop, priced at $150, contains items like an ECHO-4 figurine, a cloth map of Kairos, and four double-sided art prints – all collectibles, but not the game itself. Now that we know Borderlands 4 will retail for the standard $70 price point, it’s clear that the cost of this merchandise bundle is nearly twice as much as the actual game.
Borderlands 4’s $150 ECHO-4 Bundle Does Not Include the Game Itself
As a gamer myself, I’ve got to say that the ECHO-4 bundle for Borderlands 4 has been stirring up quite a buzz among us gaming community. Just like how Xbox fans felt let down when they discovered that the Avowed Physical Steelbook edition didn’t come with a physical game disc back in late 2024, despite what its name might lead you to believe. In today’s digital age, it’s not uncommon for premium editions to come with downloadable copies of games, but not having any form of the game at all is certainly an anomaly, even for this market.

It’s questionable if the ECHO-4 package would have stirred up as much controversy had it been properly labeled initially. Despite the confusion and debatable cost, these issues are not the only ones causing an uproar within the fan base at present. Pitchford has hinted that Borderlands 4 might not become available for purchase soon, and the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of the game will be launched almost a month after its release on other platforms.
