What Is The X ‘Private Likes’ Feature And How Will It Work?

As a crypto investor with experience in social media platforms, I’m excited about the new X private likes feature. Elon Musk’s latest updates to the platform have been intriguing, and this privacy feature is no exception.

Elon Musk, now in control of X (formerly Twitter), has implemented various alterations and enhancements since assuming leadership over the social media site. These modifications include renaming the platform from Twitter to X and adopting a Dogecoin logo as its new symbol, which is both amusing for users and has thrust the platform into popular discussion. A notable development under Musk’s tenure is the introduction of the private likes feature on X, an intriguing innovation that sets it apart.

In this blog, let us discuss X’s new privacy feature and how it will work.

X Private Likes Feature Offers Privacy & Freedom

In May 2021, Haofei Wang, engineering director at X, unveiled the transition of X’s network from public likes to X Private Likes. This change implies that likes on any X post will now be hidden from public view, safeguarding users’ privacy and enabling them to express their preferences freely without external influence.

According to Wang, the public’s preference for “liking” content is influencing unwanted actions. Many individuals are deterred from engaging with edgy material due to potential backlash from trolls or to preserve their reputation.

This isn’t a completely novel addition, as premium users have enjoyed the perk of hiding up to X likes from August 2023. It served as an extra layer of privacy for them, being part of the premium package. Now, this feature has been made available to all users as of June 12, 2024.

How X Private Likes Feature Will Work?

With a self-explanatory name, X’s “private likes” function allows the poster to conceal the number of likes their post has received from others, while still having access to this information themselves. Starting now, this setting will serve as the standard mode for ensuring privacy.

Moving forward, an person has the freedom to conceal their liking actions from others, meaning only they and the original poster can view these preferences. Nevertheless, the total count of likes and engagement remains transparent for all to see.

According to reports, Facebook is introducing a new feature as of today: private likes, which conceals the regular likes on users’ posts from public view.

Soon, users will be able to like content without worrying about who might see it.

Likes play a role in suggesting content with aligned interests, but prioritizing user privacy is just as crucial. Elon Musk emphasizes the significance of allowing individuals to like posts without facing backlash. The platform will continue to function in this manner, ensuring privacy and autonomy for users. From now on, a user’s list of post likers will be accessible only to them under notification settings.
