At Battlefield Studios, the team working on the upcoming game, Battlefield 6, have revealed that classic titles like Battlefield 4 and Bad Company 2 serve as their primary inspiration for the new release. The much-anticipated Battlefield 6 was officially announced not long ago, with a planned launch date of October 10, 2025.
There’s a growing sense of eagerness for the Battlefield series, as we approach the beta test for Battlefield 6. This test is already setting expectations several months before the game hits the shelves. One factor fueling this excitement is the Battlefield Labs playtest program, which allows the community to contribute feedback that influences the development process. So far, the responses have been praised as a revisit to the “golden era” of popular Battlefield games such as Battlefield 3 and 4, often considered the series’ best installments.
Battlefield 6 Developer Says Battlefield 3, 4, and Bad Company 2 Heavily Inspired Them
In their conversation with Gamesradar, the User Experience Director at Criterion Games, Alan Pimm, revealed that Battlefield 3 and 4 served as significant sources of inspiration for Battlefield 6. This influence was particularly noticeable in terms of the game’s tone and presentation. Fan feedback indicated a preference for modern settings over the more futuristic landscapes seen in games like Battlefield 2042 or 2142. Players expressed a desire for weapons resembling those currently available, set in an environment that appears authentic and grounded in reality. Interestingly, the conflict depicted in Battlefield 6 takes place in the relatively near future of 2027, following the alleged dissolution of the NATO military alliance.

It’s no wonder that Battlefield 3 and 4 influenced Battlefield 6 significantly, but in an interview with PC Gamer, DICE Lead Multiplayer Producer Jeremy Chubb revealed that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was another significant source of inspiration for the upcoming game. Although considered a spin-off title, Bad Company 2 stood out for its extensive approach to environmental destruction, allowing players to demolish almost every structure on the map progressively. Even popular games like Battlefield 3 and 4 didn’t go that far, preferring large-scale, scripted events over dynamic destruction. Chubb emphasized that the “intimate destructive experience” in Bad Company 2 was something the team wanted to revisit for Battlefield 6.

It appears that Battlefield Studios is using the top-performing and well-liked Battlefield games as a blueprint for developing Battlefield 6. Fingers crossed, their attempts to rekindle the series’ glory days will prove successful as players test the beta and the official launch.
