Magic: The Gathering Spider-Man and Edge of Eternities Sets Create a Self-Sustaied Combo

Currently, Magic: The Gathering is experiencing significant success, with each release since Tarkir: Dragonstorm in April 2025 proving both financially profitable and well-received by fans due to its innovative cards, mechanics, and offerings. Just recently, Wizards of the Coast unveiled Magic: The Gathering‘s Edge of Eternities set, which had initially raised concerns among some fans about its space theme not fitting the traditional definition of a Magic set. However, the set has been performing exceptionally well in both sales and reception. Following this release, the upcoming set based on Spider-Man is scheduled for September 26, and while details about all cards are yet to be disclosed, there’s already evidence of a powerful synergy between this set and Edge of Eternities.

In most Magic: The Gathering decks, there are pre-built combinations of cards, which is consistent across all game formats. However, in Commander format, where you don’t have multiple copies of each card, every spell becomes crucial. It’s worth mentioning that with the recent releases of Edge of Eternities and Spider-Man, a potent combo has emerged between these two sets, as it can be utilized across all formats. The combo primarily revolves around the cards Anti-Venom, Horrifying Healer, and Dawnsire, Sunstar Dreadnought.

Spider-Man’s Anti-Venom Card Already Has an OP Magic: The Gathering Combo

As an ardent fan eagerly anticipating the release of the Spider-Man set, I’ve noticed a thrilling buzz among players who are already brainstorming decks centered around the upcoming heroes, especially the captivating Spider-Man 2099 cards in Magic: The Gathering. For those intrigued by the fresh mono-White card, Anti-Venom, Horrifying Healer, I’ve uncovered a plethora of exciting combos tailored for diverse formats, ensuring an invigorating experience once the set drops!

  • Anti-Venom + Pariah / Pariah’s Shield (Commander)
  • Anti-Venom + Spectacular Spider-Man (Limited and all other formats)
  • Anti-Venom + Overlord of the Mistmoors (Standard)

In my opinion, the pairing of Anti-Venom with Dawnsire from Edge of Eternities is nothing short of exhilarating! Dawnsire possesses two stationary threshold abilities that can be triggered when it has 10 or more, or 20 or more charge counters respectively. The first ability allows players to dish out a whopping 100 points of damage to a creature or Planeswalker during an attack – a move that could instantly inflate Anti-Venom into a formidable 105/105 creature!

Now,

In Magic: The Gathering (MTG), there’s a powerful two-card combo that can be activated as early as turn six, without any mana boosters, or even sooner if you have speedy mana generation tools. This combo deals over 100 damage, which is usually enough to defeat any opponent in any format, except for life-gain decks. One of the cards is Anti-Venom, which can be upgraded to a massive 105/105 in Standard play. What’s more intriguing is that Anti-Venom also has a reanimation ability when it enters the battlefield, allowing it to combine with other cards for additional combos. Interestingly, within the new Spider-Man set and with more Edge of Eternities cards, the combination of Anti-Venom + Dawnsire can grow even larger.

The Gathering, players can combine Anti-Venom with Dawnsire and The Eternity Elevator, a new spacecraft card. Much like Dawnsire, The Eternity Elevator has a station that becomes active when its threshold of 20 is reached. Normally, it costs 5 mana to activate and produces 3 colorless mana when tapped. However, once the threshold is achieved, players can tap The Eternity Elevator to produce any color of mana equal to the number of charge counters on it, which must be at least 20. By activating Dawnsire’s ability on Anti-Venom, players can transform it into a powerful 105/105 creature. Then, by tapping Anti-Venom, players can add 105 charge counters to The Eternity Elevator. This allows players to tap The Eternity Elevator to produce a massive 105 mana.

Instead, when Anti-Venom boasts more than 100 power and toughness due to Dawnside, players can employ Spectacular’s Spider-Man ability to grant indestructibility and hexproof to their creatures until the turn ends. This effectively safeguards Anti-Venom from being eliminated in MTG’s upcoming Spider-Man set.
