Battlefield 6 Breaks Series Record Halfway Into Open Beta

During the preliminary stage of Battlefield 6‘s open beta, an astounding 470,000 players participated simultaneously on Steam, shattering the previous series record by a significant margin and achieving a monumental milestone before the full-fledged phase of the beta even started.

Starting on August 7th, Electronic Arts (EA) unveiled the beta version of Battlefield 6 in its early access stage. This early release was mainly offered to individuals who registered to participate through the Battlefield Labs platform or are subscribed to EA Play Pro. Additionally, access keys were given out via Twitch Drops. After two days, the early access phase ended, paving the way for a three-day open testing period, where everyone can join in.

Battlefield 6 Open Beta Debuts in Top 5 Most Played Steam Games

The initial server hiccups during the Battlefield 6 open beta test seem to indicate a highly successful run, in terms of gaining momentum. Evidence of its widespread appeal is evident as per the latest data from SteamDB, which indicates that on Saturday, August 9, between early afternoon hours (ET), the game boasted an impressive 473,632 concurrent players on Valve’s platform, placing it as the fourth most-played game on Steam currently, with only Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and PUBG: Battlegrounds ahead, but Battlefield 6 surpassing Apex Legends, another title from EA.

The peak of simultaneous Steam players in the game indicates that over a million individuals have participated in its ongoing beta testing on Valve’s platform. Given past trends, it’s likely that the total number of players is closer to 2 million rather than 1 million, and could even surpass this figure. Additional data suggests an even larger player count, as EA reported blocking over 330,000 attempts at cheating during the initial phase of Battlefield 6‘s open beta. While some cheaters might have tried to gain an unfair advantage multiple times, inflating this number, 330,000 cheating attempts is still a remarkably high figure for a two-day-old beta with approximately 2 million players.

In comparison to its current testing phase, the open beta for the record-breaking series titled “Battlefield 2042” saw around one-third fewer players at its peak, with approximately 156,000 concurrent users towards the end of 2021. Post-release, it reached a maximum of 107,376 players on Steam, which is about 31% lower than its beta player count. If this trend continues, “Battlefield 6,” slated for release in fall 2025, might attract over 300,000 concurrent Steam players.
