A significant group of fans for the upcoming game, Battlefield 6, are advocating for the inclusion of the Operations mode from Battlefield 1. Although it seems unlikely at present, EA has suggested that there may be more to Battlefield 6 than what has been revealed so far.
Right now, Battlefield 6 is in the midst of its initial open beta weekend, which ends on August 11 at 1am PT / 4am ET / 10am CET. The testing phase started two days after it began its early access period, accessible to EA Play Pro subscribers, Battlefield Labs testers, and individuals who secured an entry pass through Twitch Drops. Over the past week, numerous enthusiasts have had the chance to thoroughly play the shooter, leading to a lot of online chatter.
Battlefield 6 Players Want B1’s Operations Mode Back
As a passionate Battlefield fan, I can’t help but express my enthusiasm for the call to action that’s been buzzing on the r/Battlefield subreddit lately. A group of dedicated Battlefield 6 players have been advocating for the game to include the Operations mode from Battlefield 1. In a post that has since gained significant traction, Reddit user DaRealAyman stated, “Leaving out Operations is a major missed opportunity.” This sentiment was echoed by hundreds of other users, resulting in thousands of upvotes and securing a prominent spot on the subreddit’s front page since early morning ET on August 10.
What Is Battlefield 1’s Operations Mode?
In Battlefield 1, a popular game launched in October 2016, a new game mode named Operations was introduced. This mode is designed to mimic the progression of a real war campaign, encompassing various maps as a continuous battlefront. The attacking teams aim to push forward on two or three interconnected maps, each map divided into several sectors representing specific objectives. Simultaneously, defending teams work to halt their advance by engaging them in combat and depleting their reinforcement points. Normally, a battalion contains between 250 and 350 of these reinforcement points.

In the Operations mode of each sector within combat operations, attackers were tasked to seize all control points before advancing. If an assault was successful, the action would shift to another sector, eventually leading to a new map. This mode incorporated aspects from earlier Battlefield modes such as Conquest and Rush, but it primarily focused on large-scale warfare and progressive advancement. In June 2018, DICE introduced a streamlined version of this mode called Shock Operations, which featured a single map, smaller teams, and fewer reinforcement tickets to provide faster-paced matches.
It seems unlikely that Battlefield 6 will introduce new modes in response to fan requests this far into its development. However, Electronic Arts (EA) has hinted that they may still be holding back some details about the game’s content. So, it’s possible that new gameplay modes, like Operations, could be part of the upcoming Battlefield 6, which is scheduled for release on October 10.
