According to GamesRadar+’s interview with David Sirland, the lead producer of Battlefield 6, it was questioned whether skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) would be implemented in the server matches for Battlefield 6. Sirland explained that during the open beta testing for Battlefield 6, the matchmaking focused on ensuring all essential elements were in place for the game’s launch, which are consistent with those found in the previous title. The primary emphasis for Battlefield 6’s matchmaking is prioritizing “ping” (the time it takes for data to travel between a player and the server) and “time to join the game.
Explanation: During our open beta testing, we incorporated all the matchmaking priorities that we anticipate will be in place at launch. These priorities resemble those from earlier games. Generally, we focus on ping and the time it takes to connect to a game above other factors.
In the open beta phase, we included all the matchmaking preferences that we plan to use at launch, which are similar to what we’ve had in past titles. Primarily, we prioritize ping and connection speed over many other aspects.
