PEAK has introduced a new level for the first time since its launch in early 2025 – the Mesa biome. For the initial week of release, it took over as the third level in every PEAK gameplay, replacing the Alpine biome. However, going forward, the game will rotate between the Alpine and Mesa biomes regularly.
In PEAK, conquering the challenging Mesa level can be quite a feat, requiring you to employ all your survival skills effectively. Navigate through the searing, rugged desert, steer clear of tornadoes, antlion dens, dynamite, and other fresh perils that this biome presents. To help you triumph over the Mesa level‘s harsh, sizzling landscape in PEAK, follow this guide, utilizing these top strategies for survival.
8. Stick To The Shadows
Avoid the Blistering Sun by Moving From Shadow to Shadow
In the game PEAK, surviving the Mesa biome requires avoiding the primary danger – the intense sunlight. Unlike the Caldera and Kiln which cause harm through lava and fire, the Mesa level is characterized by a massive sun that inflicts damage when players are exposed. This mechanic can be challenging to navigate, but with the right strategies, it’s definitely achievable.
In the Mesa biome, it’s crucial for PEAK players to keep to the shaded areas and minimize exposure to direct sunlight to increase their chances of survival. To reduce sunburn damage, consider using the latest Sunblock and Aloe Vera items in this zone.
As a strategic thinker, I would recommend carefully planning your route and seeking out shaded areas that I can swiftly move towards when the sun is still high in the sky. This approach ensures I can avoid direct sunlight and stay comfortable during my journey.
In the Mesa biome, if you can ensure that your Heat level remains below 10% of your Stamina gauge, you’ll receive the Cool Cucumber Badge as a reward.
7. … Or Wait Until Nightfall
The Sun Can’t Burn You At Night

In simpler terms, since the Mesa level’s Heat mechanic only affects you when you’re under direct sunlight, you can freely explore the desert and canyon of the Mesa biome without suffering from heat damage once the sun sets.
In simpler terms, look for a sheltered location that’s not directly exposed to sunlight, ideally just a little inside the biome to steer clear of the approaching mist. This should provide you with a suitable, sun-protected area.
Spend the day waiting for the transition from day to night within the area known as PEAK. Once the sun sets, head towards the mesa to move through the biome. However, be aware that even at night, you’re not completely safe. The low light can make it difficult to spot potential hazards in the mesa, such as Dynamite and Cacti.
6. Don’t Avoid Dynamite β Pick It Up
Throw Dynamite Away Instead Of Panicking

As a movie buff engrossed in the latest developments of PEAK, I’m thrilled about the addition of Dynamite in the Mesa update! However, it’s not just another pick-up item to play with at will; you’ll find unlit dynamite scattered across the Mesa biome. If you get near a stick, it’ll spontaneously ignite, emitting thick black smoke for a few breathless moments before detonating in a massive area-of-effect explosion that dishes out colossal damage!
Instead of fleeing from the dynamite stick, it’s wiser to move towards it. It won’t explode until you approach closer. Once near, head towards the fuse, grab it, and press the ‘Throw’ key to hurl it far away. If you scatter in fear, you might run into another dynamite stick, a cactus, or an antlion den. So, stay composed and take action!

5. Avoid Cacti As Much As Possible
Remove Spikes From Stuck Teammates To Restore Their Stamina

In the Mesa biome, cacti pose significant risks. A simple touch may cause a Thorny condition, characterized by embedded cactus spines that need to be removed for it to disappear. Furthermore, you might even become tangled in a cactus, leading to an escalating Thorny level until you manage to free yourself.
Generally speaking, cacti tend to grow in clusters, so trying to extract oneself from them often leads to encountering more. To ensure safety, it’s best to steer clear of cacti altogether, and this is even more important if there’s a tornado nearby.

4. If You’re Near a Tornado, Get Away From Cacti
Tornadoes Can Launch You Into Cacti, Which Build Thorns Damage

In the Mesa region, tornadoes stand out as one of its distinctive natural risks. Approaching these twisters, which circle through the initial part of the Mesa ecosystem, could potentially send PEAK game players flying erratically aloft.
If you have a Parasol item, you can use this to your advantage and cover a huge distance.
From my perspective as a devoted cinema-goer, being caught up in a twister usually means ending up impaled on cacti and suffering from both falling injury and becoming entangled in a precarious situation that leaves me defenseless against escalating spikes damage.
In case you find yourself unable to escape an approaching tornado, try your utmost to move away from any nearby cacti. If fortune favors you, you might only be tossed a short distance, thereby avoiding getting stuck in a bed of prickly pear cactus.

3. Find Ways To Heal Heat
Aloe Vera Is The Easiest & Most Accessible Method To Remove Heat

Among the standout additions in the Mesa update is the inclusion of Aloe Vera. Notably, the Mesa biome features some exclusive consumables, such as Prickly Berries that replenish Hunger while causing Thorns, and Aloe Vera, which aids in healing Heat damage.
Throughout the game, sunscreen and parasols can be discovered within luggage crates. However, these items occupy an inventory slot, and they do not automatically appear. Parasols allow you to glide down from a high point to shield yourself from sunlight, whereas sunscreen is solely utilized for safeguarding against heat-related damage.
In the sprawling expanse of the Mesa biome’s opening acts, keep an eye out for these long, pointed foliage reminiscent of a certain plant species. They tend to make their appearance more frequently in these areas where they are more likely to appear. When you find one, consume it to alleviate all but the most severe heat-related injuries.

2. Use Pickaxes Like Temporary Pitons
The Longer You Hang, The More It Dislodges From The Cliff

In the Mesa region’s Canyon district, players need to traverse a vast chasm. Along the canyon walls, you might notice some pickaxes fixed into the stone. Just like the old pitons in the Alpine zone, you can grab onto these pickaxes when climbing to restore your stamina – but exercise caution.
Just like old, weakened nails, if you rely on them for too long, they might snap. Pay attention to the sound of stone splitting as the hammer strikes, and avoid holding on unnecessarily to prevent a potential fall.

1. Keep An Eye Out For Capybaras
Like the Alpine Biome, the Capybara Pool Mitigates the Mesa’s Heat

One delightful aspect of the Alpine ecosystem is the Capybara Hot Springs, which can alleviate the frostbite injuries caused by the frigid blizzards within. Conversely, in the Mesa biome, capybaras provide a refreshing respite for characters suffering from heat damage. If you’re fortunate enough to locate their cooling oasis pool in the Mesa biome, it will help heal any heat-related injuries you may have sustained.
To earn the Animal Serenading Badge, simply bring a bugle along with you when visiting the Mesa biome, then utilize the pool there.
Furthermore, a Capybara is usually born or found with a Winterberry on its snout. This trait can help protect it from the harsh sunlight of the Mesa.
