Enthusiasts of the Soulslike action RPG titled “Wuchang: Fallen Feathers” are swarming to Steam to post unfavorable reviews due to concerns that the game’s content seems to be getting censored in its most recent update.
According to well-known Soulslike enthusiast and Bloodborne modifier Lance McDonald on social platforms (as reported by Windows Central), the latest Update 1.5 alters the game to make it unattainable to defeat any bosses or NPCs who hold historical importance.
As a devoted fan, I’d rephrase that for you: According to McDonald, these adversaries and bosses appear to wind down and chat with you after a fight, much like we might do after a tough match. Interestingly, the Pray emote, which was learned from a Portuguese Christian missionary throughout the game, seems to have been taken out.
As per McDonald’s explanation, the fourth chapter in the game ‘Wuchang: Fallen Feathers’ is now considered “surprisingly simple” due to the fact that more than half of its adversaries will no longer pose a threat to you, and conversely, you are also unable to engage them. This significant reduction in conflict makes up a large part of the challenge that this chapter previously presented.
Furthermore, it seems that the main character in the game is not just victorious over the bosses but also vows to uphold their legacies. As McDonald points out, this development undermines the core theme of the game’s narrative, which revolves around the concept of transience or impermanence.
You can find numerous instances of such modifications across McDonald’s social media posts, and I strongly advise you to check them out if you’re curious about the alterations made following the update.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been keeping an eye out for updates, but it seems the official patch notes aren’t giving us much detail this time around. There’s a vague mention about chatting with certain NPCs to progress some storylines and promises of optimizing exhaustion animations in the future for smoother gameplay-but we’re left hanging on specifics.
It’s not surprising that these changes in “Wuchang: Fallen Feathers” haven’t been met with enthusiasm by Steam users. Many have expressed their dissatisfaction through negative reviews, criticizing the abrupt plot alterations, perceived censorship, and what they perceive as an attempt to appease overly sensitive Chinese nationalists.
Interestingly, the criticisms that were initially aimed at addressing nationalist sentiments in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers appear to have escalated instead. It’s unclear if Leenzee will implement more changes, but it’s clear that Update 1.5 has substantially altered the game.
Sure thing!
If you’re interested in playing the game, you have several options at your disposal right now. You can play it on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Additionally, it’s also included as a Game Pass title.
