Notably, even though all characters are roughly the same height, each one maintains aspects of their original series’ design concept. This means that characters like Ember or Azula, who may have different proportions due to being scaled down, still carry over elements from their original designs.

It’s quite noticeable with the recently unveiled group of villains from the new series “Nicktoons and the Dice of Destiny“, named Flame Fatales. This trio includes Angelica Pickles, Azula, and Ember, who hail from “Rugrats“, “Avatar: The Last Airbender“, and “Danny Phantom” respectively. Angelica stands out the most, with her outline width, color, and eye shape resembling the original design of “Rugrats“. Azula and Ember share similarities, such as a certain pupil shape, but they also differ significantly, like having different eyeball shapes. Interestingly, Angelica appears to have one of the most distinct designs overall, which makes sense since the simplified pupil design is characteristic of “Rugrats” characters, and altering her appearance too much would dilute her unique identity.

In his analysis, Spinola underscored similarities with Nicktoons and the Dice of Destiny’s character design and creative decisions. He delved into the consistent aspects of this artistic style, particularly as seen in the characters known as Flame Fatales.

For the trio of Flame Fatales, we opted for a unified art style across all characters to create a stronger bond between them, especially during cutscenes. By blending their designs, we’ve successfully linked our villains and the game world, making them feel more interconnected.

Incorporating various art styles between Nicktoons and Dice of Destiny’s characters is crucial for preserving visual harmony in this crossover endeavor. Despite stark contrasts in character head designs and shapes, it’s the similarities in their body structures that stand out. These similarities encompass shared proportions and line thickness. However, there are exceptions to this rule, as illustrated by characters like SpongeBob who have unique silhouettes – a detail Spinola highlighted when discussing the delicate act of blending humor with seriousness within a single project.

The distinction between lightheartedness and danger is crucial for maintaining the unique atmosphere of the NatDoD universe: a vibrant, entertaining realm where the search for the Dice of Power intensifies the tension, and even minor mistakes could lead to dire consequences for the protagonists.
