Silent Hill f Dev Discusses Soulslike Comparisons, Offers Advice for Fans

In a recent interview, the producer of the Silent Hill game, Motoi Okamoto, addressed comparisons between the game and Souls-like titles, primarily dismissing such labels. During this discussion, he also offered reassurances to long-time fans worried about combat changes in Silent Hill F being significantly different from previous versions.

During the early previews of the upcoming game Silent Hill f in August 2025, the term “soulslike” has been mentioned multiple times. Preliminary reviews pointed out elements like a stamina bar, leveling up stats at certain points, and a focus on evasion. Boss battles were also referred to as challenging peaks that demanded players to master attack patterns in order to advance. These observations have prompted comparisons to soulslike games, sparking apprehension among some fans regarding the final gameplay experience of Silent Hill f.

Silent Hill f Is Not a Soulslike, Developer Says

In a recent interview during Xbox Gamescom 2025 on August 21st, Motoi Okamoto, the producer of Silent Hill f, addressed concerns about the game’s genre. Contrary to speculations that it might be a souls-like title, Okamoto clarified through an interpreter that the game is primarily focused on horror and action elements. This aligns with his previous statements suggesting that Silent Hill f will feature more action compared to past games in the series.

Silent Hill f Will Offer a Way to ‘Replicate the Authentic Silent Hill Experience’

In the August 21 interview with the creator of Silent Hill, Okamoto gave reassurance to longtime fans worried about the game’s action orientation. He encouraged those who fit the description to try out the Story Mode, as it aims to deliver the genuine Silent Hill atmosphere. This recommendation aligns with the fact that earlier main series installments, though eerie, were not commonly considered challenging mechanically. Previously, developer Neobards Entertainment has disclosed that the survival horror game will feature distinct difficulty adjustment options for combat and puzzle aspects.

During an interview in August 2025, Okamoto stated that the upcoming game, Silent Hill f, is focusing more on action to draw in new players. He believed that younger gamers crave intense, interactive combat, which the forthcoming survival horror game intends to provide. At the time, some fans interpreted this comment as suggesting that Silent Hill f might incorporate soulslike or soulslite-style combat. However, Okamoto has since clarified that this assumption is not accurate.

This game is not a soulslike. It’s fundamentally a horror-based, action-based experience.
