Blizzard has given a comprehensive preview of what Overwatch 2 enthusiasts can anticipate during Season 18. Each season in Overwatch 2 introduces thrilling updates and fresh content for fans of the action-shooter genre to immerse themselves in, but seasons that debut new characters tend to be the most captivating. It’s safe to say that many Overwatch 2 players would rank these character-introducing seasons as the game’s highlights.
This year, Overwatch 2 introduced a new Damage hero named Freja, and in the near future, it plans to add another character – a Support hero named Wuyang. Previously, Overwatch 2 players got a sneak peek at Wuyang during trials, but as of August 26, he will officially join the diverse cast of playable characters in the game.
When Does Overwatch 2 Season 18 Start?
- Tuesday, August 26

In Overwatch 2, the character Wuyang wields the Xuanwu Staff, firing projectiles known as “guided water sprites” that deal area damage or disrupt opponents. Wuyang’s Guardian Wave pushes enemies back and increases ally healing rates, while his Rushing Torrent ability lets him surf on water currents for quick movement. Lastly, Tidal Blast is Wuyang’s Ultimate move, providing temporary overhealth to allies and knocking enemies away with a powerful wave. The response of fans to Wuyang’s abilities remains to be seen once he officially enters the game, but we’ll find out soon enough. Of course, Wuyang is only a taste of what players can expect in terms of new content and changes arriving in Overwatch 2 during Season 18.

In addition to Wuyang joining the game, Overwatch 2 enthusiasts can anticipate a Quickplay Queue within Stadium mode, as well as the arrivals of characters such as Winston, Brigitte, and Pharah. Tracer will appear in Stadium during Season 18, but not immediately at its start on August 26. Stadium will also introduce a Draft Mode for team selection and strategy planning, a Payload Race Mode, new items, the Thames District and Oasis Gardens maps, and enhanced Elite Rank rewards.

Diving back into the thrilling competitive play of Overwatch 2 during Season 18 could be an ideal moment, as this season marks a fresh start with a complete rank reset. Players will have the opportunity to participate in new placement matches to establish their position. Additionally, over 50 exciting new hero abilities are being introduced for both competitive and player-versus-player modes, adding an extra layer of excitement to the gameplay.
As a die-hard gamer, I’m pumped about the upcoming Season 18 of Overwatch 2! I can hardly wait to get my hands on the brand new Sojourn Mythic Hero Skin, the Blazing Sunsetter Mythic Weapon Skin for Cassidy. The Premium Battle Pass is another exciting addition, complete with an Ultimate Bundle and free rewards that are sure to keep me engaged.
I’m particularly intrigued by the new hero skill rating system. It’ll be a great way to measure my personal mastery in the game. Plus, faster leveling and new prestige portrait levels will make it even more rewarding to progress. And let’s not forget about those milestone loot boxes – who doesn’t love a good surprise?
But wait, there’s more! Overwatch 2 is also introducing an Advanced Info Panel that provides real-time stats during matches. This should help me make smarter decisions and step up my game. All things considered, it looks like Season 18 is going to be a blast, and I can’t wait until August 26 to dive in!
