Players are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Wake of the Water expansion, which is just around the corner. With all the recent enhancements made to the game’s housing and NPC systems, this seems like an excellent opportunity to come back and experience everything fresh. Among the new features are Pets, a revamped farming system, a barber, new spells, and much more!
This new expansion is poised to deviate significantly from previous ones, offering an elevated challenge and enhancing game quality simultaneously. Players can anticipate a host of changes with this upcoming update, and here are some thrilling aspects worth noting: Dive into the details of the Enshrouded Wake of the Water expansion in this comprehensive guide.
A Huge New Biome To Explore
For those Flameborn eagerly catching up with the major changes rolled out to Enshrouded back in 2025, they’re in for a tropical treat! A vast new Biome – a coastal paradise and archipelago – has been added to the north of Embervale. Intriguingly, players have longed for a biome like this, along with swimming mechanics, for years. Now is the ideal moment to bring their wishes to life by constructing dream ‘beach homes’ in the post-apocalyptic world of Enshrouded.
In addition to the newly introduced biome rich with tropical flora such as palm trees, canopies, and dense jungle growth, you’ll find architectural structures reminiscent of Aztec or Mayan temples. Players got a sneak peek at this during the Swamp Melodies update in June 2024, and it appears that treacherous trap-filled dungeons and exploration will be the focus of this expansion as well.
In the grand unveiling of the expansion, characters are depicted venturing not just across the jungle temple’s exterior, but also delving into submerged relics in search of riches and likely new allies to stir from their dormant state. Consequently, players can anticipate that underwater exploration will be a significant aspect of this expansion’s gameplay.
Swimming, Diving, and Dynamic Water

As a devoted fan, I can’t contain my excitement as one of the long-awaited features that the gaming community has been yearning for is finally making its way into Enshrouded – swimming! Traditionally, survival games have steered clear of incorporating swimming mechanics into their core gameplay, but Enshrouded has always been a trailblazer. However, this rule has been broken with the introduction of Wake of the Water, where we’ll now be able to explore underwater landscapes and navigate through bodies of water like never before! But that’s not all – there are even more surprises in store for us!
In the upcoming game update, underwater exploration becomes crucial for accessing hidden Runes and Legendary Weapons within the new end-game biome. Players will need to delve deep into submerged ruins, with limited oxygen supply as they can only dive for approximately 90 seconds before running out of air. However, drowning is the least of their worries compared to the perilous creatures lurking in the depths that can be potentially lethal if not handled carefully. For now, underwater combat isn’t an option. Moreover, anticipate Underwater hazards to be integrated into Shroud zones, significantly increasing the challenge level of this end-game Biome.
The upcoming game features an intriguing aspect where water mechanics are incorporated, allowing for strategically timed floods within certain ruin halls to heighten the challenge of dungeon exploration. Players will possess the power to break down walls and allow water into dungeons. Although specifics about its impact on exploration aren’t yet known, initial impressions from the teaser trailer and gameplay demonstrations suggest that this water system is a significant upgrade compared to previous games, with lifelike water particles showcased.

In the gameplay, not only does water offer a fresh avenue for exploration by enabling swim/dive mechanics, it also introduces fishing activities where players can catch fish for cooking meals that boost Stamina, Health, and Attributes. Furthermore, combat strategies involve flooding areas to trap enemies who can’t swim, allowing players to eliminate them efficiently. The versatility of water as a resource in the game is quite promising.
In Enshrouded, the addition of dynamic water brings about changes in gardening and farming activities. This water accelerates plant growth, thereby emphasizing the importance of water management for player activities’ longevity. Furthermore, this water has both volume and weight, potentially influencing structures like Water Wheels. The upcoming Wake of Water update may introduce more unexpected interactions. We shall see what unfolds over time.
New Weapon: Two-Handed Sword

Since Enshrouded Early-Access launched, many gamers have been eagerly requesting the inclusion of Two-Handed Swords within the game. The combat and diverse selection of One-Handed Weapons in the game are generally well-received, but the prospect of wielding a massive two-handed sword to swiftly dispatch shrouded undead creatures certainly adds an appealing edge.
Apart from the modern architecture and relaxing beach loungers, this weapon allows players to fully utilize their Barbarian and Warrior skills. With its extended reach, it’s capable of swiftly eliminating enemies in one powerful strike.
Furthermore, as the game introduces a new formidable foe – the Lizardmen, a common element in high-fantasy RPGs – players can expect ample opportunities to hone their skills with the fresh weapon archetype, providing them with plentiful target practice.
Challenging New Puzzles & Dungeons

In the updated Biome, the difficulty level ranges from 40 to 45. This means a substantial amount of questing is needed to reach the optimal end-game level for this new area. Once there, however, the real test starts as you navigate the underwater regions filled with intriguing dungeons and crypts. These areas introduce unique puzzles that revolve around the game’s latest water, swimming, and diving mechanics.
In some parts of the game, players may find themselves immersed in an area blanketed by a deadly fog known as the Shroud. Swimming underwater is necessary, yet the Shroud poses a constant menace. Players must navigate their way while keeping an eye out for air pockets to breathe, since straying from the correct route during dives could lead to their game character’s demise.
Exploring beneath the ruins for hidden door controls, then emerging from the depths to dodge hazards and fend off adversaries certainly seems quite demanding. The game’s commitment to high-level challenge in its survival RPG setting is truly impressive and appealing!
Game Balance And Performance

Introducing the Greatsword right from the get-go will enrich the fight sequences with various animations, fortunately without significantly disrupting the game’s balance. The primary combat mechanics will largely remain familiar to Enshrouded players, with the notable exception being the introduction of a stylish new weapon type – the Greatsword.
While the improved animations, textures, and water effects might cause some players to worry about performance, the game appeared to run seamlessly and without any glitches during the live stream. However, it’s important to note that each player’s experience could vary based on their individual setup.
Anticipate an enhancement, as the strategy used by developers in past expansions is likely to continue delivering results. The upcoming Wake of the Water expansion promises a significant impact on all Enshrouded players. Keen Games’ team has consistently been delivering top-notch updates, patch after patch, so it’s unlikely that they will fall short when the new update launches in October 2025.
