As a fellow enthusiast, I’d like to share some insights about Metal Gear Solid Delta. On your initial playthrough, you’ll find that European Extreme isn’t available as an option from the start. You can only unlock it after successfully completing the game for the first time. Additionally, remember that once you’ve started a new game in MGS Delta, you can’t change the difficulty level mid-game. So, take your time to decide on the right challenge level that suits your skills when beginning a fresh adventure!
Difficulty Setting Differences in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
As a gamer, stepping into a game on ‘Very Easy’ mode feels like donning an invincible suit of armor. This setting blesses the classic Snake character with double health, equips me with the EZ Gun – a silent, infinite-ammo tranquilizer pistol that’s perfect for takedowns without raising too much fuss.
On top of that, I get to use advanced gadgets like the Motion Detector, Active Sonar, and Anti-Personnel Sensor, helping me spot enemies from a mile away. But fear not, the tables are turned on them; my ‘Very Easy’ status significantly weakens their attack power and intuition, making it a breeze for me to stay hidden in plain sight!
The situation slightly tilts in your favor, with a level of difficulty that is just a step higher. In this mode, Snake receives life gauges 1.5 times more than usual, enemies exhibit slower responses, weakened detection skills, and diminished attack strength. Additionally, you’ll have access to the same tools as Very Easy mode, including Motion Detector, Active Sonar, and Anti-Personnel Sensor.
For beginners, the default experience offers balanced challenges. This means Snake’s health points (HP) and enemy damage are at standard levels. Essential items like the Motion Detector, Active Sonar, and Anti-Personnel Sensor can still be utilized. The highest achievable rank on Normal difficulty is named the ‘Doberman’.
In easier terms, the challenging difficulty level (Hard) makes the enemies stronger and more alert. Enemies have enhanced attack power and detection skills, which means they can spot you from a greater distance in the jungle. To avoid being seen, you’ll need to perfect the camouflage feature. Also, only the Anti-Personnel Sensor is available for use on Hard mode, not the Motion Detector or Active Sonar. Moreover, only the FOX title offers runs at this difficulty level.
In Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the toughest starting level is labeled as ‘Extreme’. This mode is primarily meant for players who have a deep understanding of the original game. In this mode, Snake begins with just 2/3 of his regular health gauge, and the enemy soldiers are more alert and deal higher damage. Moreover, you’re not allowed to use any detection items on Extreme mode, not even the Anti-Personnel Sensor. If you manage to excel on this challenging difficulty level, you will be rewarded with the prestigious title of FOXHOUND.
European Extreme mode becomes accessible once you’ve completed MGS Delta for the first time. Essentially, it offers the same level of difficulty as Extreme, but here, if an enemy spots you, the game immediately ends. However, caution phases don’t trigger a full alert, so you can still maintain stealth and keep your enemies guessing, provided you avoid setting off a complete alarm. This mode represents the peak Metal Gear challenge.
Differences Between MGS Delta’s Play Styles (Legacy Vs New)
In Metal Gear Solid Delta, there are two distinct playstyles available: Traditional and Modern. The game sets you up with the Modern style which features updated third-person controls, but if you’re fond of the control scheme from the PS2 version of Snake Eater, you can switch to the Traditional style at your convenience.
This modification doesn’t merely alter the control system; it offers significant gameplay enhancements as well. The New Style enables you to shoot and aim simultaneously while moving, and the third-person viewpoint facilitates spotting enemies at a distance. In contrast, the Legacy Style adopts an overhead camera, similar to the original game version, requiring you to stand still to aim accurately with your weapons from a first-person perspective. If you don’t stand still, you can only shoot at nearby enemies from the hip.
In MGS Delta, they tailor the overall challenge level according to your preferred play style. The New Style provides smoother shooting mechanics and a broader view, so enemies will display heightened alertness and quicker response times to match this. On the other hand, if you opt for Legacy Style, the game will be a tad more lenient as the camera and shooting controls are somewhat restricted.
You can change between Legacy Style and New Style at any time from the game’s settings menu.
After beginning gameplay, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is designed to be played again once you’ve finished it the first time. As you become more accustomed to the jungle’s terrain, you can complete the game in approximately 10 hours. For your second playthrough, consider increasing the difficulty settings and aiming to achieve some of the game’s hard-to-get titles. This will better prepare you for the multiplayer Fox Hunt mode.
