Best Gears of War Reloaded Difficulty Settings and Differences

In the game Gears of War: Reloaded, there are four levels of difficulty. While it is feasible to adjust them later, players won’t be able to do so dynamically like they can in many contemporary video games. This means that selecting the appropriate difficulty level at the beginning of the game becomes quite significant as you won’t be able to easily alter it during gameplay.

It’s good news that, differently from the initial launch, players no longer have to finish the game on Casual or Hardcore modes to access the Insane difficulty setting. Now, there’s also a Normal option available, which helps players select the ideal Gears of War: Reloaded difficulty level according to their abilities and current situation.

All Gears of War: Reloaded Difficulty Settings and Differences

Generally speaking, the difficulty levels in Gears of War: Reloaded largely mirror those of the original, with tougher settings granting enemies more health and reducing that of the playable characters. There are minor differences between enemy types, allowing for a variety of Gears of War adversaries to be used in determining an estimated damage scale for each setting. Normal is the reference point for this calculation. Achievers might want to take note as there’s a trophy/achievement for finishing the game on every difficulty level.

Difficulty Setting Damage Scaling Recommendations
Casual 0.85 Casual serves as the game’s easy mode and is recommended for those who are new to the franchise or genre. Players will be able to survive most explosions head-on while playing on Casual, which may be appealing to those playing solo. For most players, though, casual will likely prove to be far too easy.
Normal 1.00 Normal is recommended for those looking for a moderate challenge. Although it’s a bit more forgiving than Hardcore and Insane, players will still need to be aware of their surroundings and avoid rushing into areas infested with enemies. However, while playing with a friend in co-op mode, Normal is still pretty easy.
Hardcore 1.15 For most players, Hardcore will likely prove to be the sweet spot, particularly if they’re playing in co-op mode. It’s challenging, but for those who have experience playing cover shooters and can pick out a headshot, it’s arguably the most fun way to experience Gears of War: Reloaded.
Insane 1.42 Even for experienced Gears of War players, Insane can be incredibly hard. Expect to die a lot if you choose this difficulty setting, especially if you’re playing through the campaign solo. For that reason, Insane is only really recommended for those playing in co-op mode, and only if both players are really good at the game.

In the game Gears of War: Reloaded, players don’t have the option to adjust the difficulty setting during gameplay, but they can select any unlocked level within the chapter menu and choose from four different difficulty settings. To earn Trophies or Achievements related to difficulty, however, players must finish every level using a certain difficulty level or higher, so they can’t simply play through most of the game on Casual and then switch to Insane only for the last level.
