A representative from Capcom has clarified that the popular fan theory linking the game Pragmata to a Mega Man series is unfounded. Although fans recently received a new trailer and a revised launch schedule for the upcoming science fiction action-adventure game, many aspects of its plot and possible ties to other games remain obscure. With so much uncertainty surrounding Pragmata, numerous theories have circulated, but Capcom has dispelled one such theory.
The enigmatic title of a third-person game, dubbed “Pragmata,” has gone through some challenging stages during its development cycle. Capcom postponed the release date for this game on two occasions, leaving fans intrigued yet disappointed. After the initial announcement, there was limited communication from the company about it, fueling both curiosity and frustration among supporters.
More recently, Capcom has confirmed that “Pragmata” will be released in 2026 and has stepped up promotional efforts for the game. However, this additional information hasn’t managed to quell speculation and conjecture surrounding it.
Capcom Clarifies That Pragmata Is Not a Mega Man Game
During a chat with VGC, Naoto Oyama, the producer, chuckled at the fan speculation suggesting that Pragmata is actually a Mega Man game. However, he firmly dismissed this theory, stating that Pragmata represents an entirely new project for Capcom. Any similarities to other franchises might be mere coincidences or fun Easter eggs, and not indicative of any ties between Pragmata and other series like Resident Evil. This also applies to the undead-like enemies reminiscent of Resident Evil, as they do not signify a connection to that particular series.

Although the theories linking Mega Man and Pragmata might not hold up, it’s understandable why people draw such comparisons. Pragmata is set on the moon, includes corrupted robots as enemies, and features a humanoid robot protagonist named Diana with a lot of blue in her design. On the surface, these similarities could lead to speculation. However, Capcom has not released a mainline Mega Man game for quite some time, yet they consider it one of their most valuable properties. In light of this absence, fans eager for new content might grab onto any hints, but alas, it appears that the “hints” pointing towards a connection between Mega Man and Pragmata were merely wishful thinking on the part of Mega Man enthusiasts.

Oyama expressed his joy when he noticed Mega Man enthusiasts showing interest in Pragmata. Having previously worked as a producer for Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, there’s technically a connection between the games, though they don’t interact within the game itself. For those eager to learn more about Capcom’s new project, wait till September 24 when Tokyo Game Show 2025 unfolds, promising a rich lineup that includes Pragmata.
