As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled about the launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong, but as someone who speaks Chinese, I’ve encountered some issues. Many of us have been excitedly diving into this sequel, but unfortunately, the Chinese translation seems to be a stumbling block for numerous players. This has led to some less-than-favorable reviews.
However, the marketing director for Hollow Knight: Silksong has addressed this issue head-on and assured us that Team Cherry is committed to improving the Chinese translation in the near future. Exciting times ahead!
Despite some apparent challenges for Chinese-speaking fans, Team Cherry’s game Hollow Knight: Silksong has achieved significant success. In its initial hours on sale, Hollow Knight: Silksong broke the record for simultaneous players compared to its predecessor, with over 562,000 players on Steam alone. Although the exact numbers for Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo are not available, this represents a substantial growth from the original Hollow Knight, which never surpassed 80,000 concurrent players on any platform.
Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Chinese Translation Sparks Controversy
Although Silksong has been praised by most critics and players worldwide, users who speak Chinese have taken action to negatively review the game due to its translation quality. According to Kotaku, less than half of the 15,000+ reviews in Simplified Chinese are positive, giving the game a “mixed” rating in that language. However, this has not impacted the game’s overall Steam rating because Valve recently made changes to separate reviews by language. A user on Kotaku expressed confusion over how the excellent translation of Hollow Knight transformed into a poor one in Silksong.

Fortunately, Team Cherry has addressed the issue. In a tweet, Matthew Griffin, who oversees marketing and publishing for Team Cherry, announced that they are planning to enhance the game’s translation over the next few weeks. Fan reactions on Twitter, as expected, have been mixed. Many commend the game itself but criticize the Chinese language translation, describing it as “poor quality.

In a surprising turn of events this week, Team Cherry’s release of Hollow Knight: Silksong caused quite a stir by momentarily overpowering Xbox, Nintendo, and Steam platforms. The overwhelming excitement from fans eager to play the game, who rushed to digital stores simultaneously, seemed to have overwhelmed the servers, causing a temporary outage.
In light of the postponement of “Grand Theft Auto 6” until 2026, it’s clear that “Hollow Knight: Silksong” is one of the most highly anticipated sequels this year. While games like “Death Stranding 2” and “Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2” also made a significant impact, none were able to match the massive launch that “Hollow Knight: Silksong” experienced across various digital storefronts. With “Grand Theft Auto 6” on the horizon, one can’t help but wonder: how will these platforms handle such a colossal release? If “Hollow Knight: Silksong” was able to overpower nearly every major digital marketplace, what might happen when “Grand Theft Auto 6” is finally released?
