How to Increase Needle Damage in Silksong

In the initial stages of the game “Silksong”, some players might find that Hornet’s Needle doesn’t seem very effective, as enemies require numerous attacks to be defeated and bosses may appear invulnerable to damage. As you progress through multiple zones without encountering any upgrade options for the Needle, it could leave one questioning whether there are ways to enhance the needle’s damage in “Silksong” at all.

It’s fortunate that you can enhance Hornet’s Needle’s damage in Silksong. Initially, you’ll need to progress through most of the early to mid-game without an upgraded needle, but once you conquer Moorwing in Greymoor and reach Bellhart, you’ll be close to finding someone who can upgrade it for you. This guide offers tips on increasing Hornet’s Needle damage in Silksong and provides directions to locate the Pinmaster responsible for the upgrade.

How to Increase Needle Damage in Silksong

In order to enhance Hornet’s Needle in Silksong, players should locate Pinmaster Plinney for his assistance. He specializes in sharpening weapons and can boost the damage of Hornet’s Needle. However, you won’t be able to meet him until you liberate Bellhart from the Widow’s control first.

Luckily, enhancing Hornet’s damage doesn’t come at a cost in Silksong. Once players obtain the initial upgrade, they can further improve Hornet’s weapon and unlock additional upgrades. However, to advance Pinmaster Plinney’s progress, special items are required such as Pinmaster’s Oil, which can be discovered exclusively within the Citadel.

Silksong Needle Upgrade #1

To obtain the initial Needle upgrade in Silksong, players need to strip off the silk from Haunted Bellhart by defeating the Widow. To access Haunted Bellhart, head left from the Moorwing boss, continue moving left, and make your way through the Shellwood region until you encounter Sister Splinter’s boss battle.

After overcoming Sister Splinter, navigate your way to the left, following the path, until you encounter another Weaver statue.

By standing before this statue, you’ll activate the Cling Grip skill, enabling Hornet to scale walls by sticking to them and jumping. Utilize this skill to traverse Shellwood primarily towards your right side.

You’ll find the entrance to the Widow boss fight located straight up from Bellhart, slightly to his right, just beside the top exit of the elevator, near the central Bellhart bench.

Defeat the Widow to liberate the residents of Bellhart, earning the Needolin ability as a reward. Upon your return, notice that all the town’s insect-like inhabitants have reverted back to their normal forms. As you explore Bellhart again, many vendors and NPCs will now be accessible.

Now, climb up the buildings in town and locate one marked with a Pin sign above its entrance.

In gratitude for rescuing Bellhart, the skillful Pinmaster Plinney generously offers to sharpen Hornet’s needle at no cost. Following a delightfully amusing scene of Plinney working on the needle, you’ll be rewarded with your initial upgrade for the needle in Silksong!

Silksong Needle Upgrade #2

After sharpening Hornet’s Needle for the first time with Plinney, you might want to chat with the Pinmaster once more. He shares some intriguing news – it seems the needle’s damage can be boosted even further, but he’s missing a specific resource. Plinney hints that if Hornet manages to locate the Pinmaster’s Oil hidden within the Citadel above, another upgrade for the needle could become possible.

In the Citadel, Hornet is capable of locating multiple Vials of Amber (which could be another name for “Pale Oil”). After obtaining one, head back to Master Plinny to hone your Needle, thereby boosting its damage further!

In our ongoing exploration of Pharloom, you can expect this guide to expand with additional spots for Needle upgrades in Silksong, as well as providing further information about Pale Oil locations within the Citadel.
