Borderlands 4: All Optional Vault Bosses

In Borderlands 4, you’ll encounter multiple Vault monsters rather than just a single one as was the case in previous games from the series. Instead of battling a colossal alien boss at the end of each campaign, there are now three optional creatures scattered throughout the game that players can track down and fight for valuable loot.

In Borderlands 4, although the Vault monsters might not match up to raid bosses in terms of raw strength, they carry nearly identical destructive capabilities as the storyline-related Vault bosses seen in past games. These creatures are not merely tough opponents that can absorb a lot of damage; instead, they exhibit complex fighting styles that require keen observation if you aim to emerge victorious. This guide offers strategies for tackling each and every Vault monster in Borderlands 4, providing helpful tips to help you defeat them more efficiently.

Fadefields Vault Monster: Inceptus

Inceptus is a nimble leader who employs his tail and a range of Corrosive-infused assaults in combat, targeting potential Vault Hunters. His substantial stature makes him an easy mark to strike, but his robust armor makes him tough to defeat. You can locate his Vault close to Zadra’s Contingency Plan in the Fadefields.

To enter a region’s Vault, you need to find three Vault Key Fragments somewhere in that region.

Inceptus Weakspots and Mechanics

This boss doesn’t have any natural vulnerabilities. To inflict more damage on him, you can attempt to remove his protective armor plating using your grappling hook. The armor plates are located on his shoulders and knees. Once removed, you’ll reveal large, sensitive pustules beneath which will sustain critical damage from any hit.

As a gamer, when I’ve dished out enough damage to Inceptus, he’ll retreat into a cocoon suspended from the ceiling and drench the floor with acid. At this point, I need to swing up to those hanging lanterns, then blast the base of his cocoon for critical hits. If I can keep dealing enough damage during this phase, the cocoon will crack, sending Inceptus tumbling down. He’ll be stunned briefly after that, but the battle resumes as normal shortly after.

Tips Against Inceptus

  • His tail stab attack can be dodged by dashing sideways.
  • His leaping tail swipe attack can be dodged by double jumping.
  • Weapons with Atlas underbarrel attachments are great for hitting his enormous weakspots while moving.
  • Bring a Shock and Incendiary weapon.

Carcadia Burn Vault Monster: Radix

As a seasoned gamer, I’ve stumbled upon a formidable foe hidden southwest of Carcadia – Radix’s Vault. Unlike my past encounters with Inceptus, this beast harnesses the raw power of electricity, hurling boulders and unleashing shockwaves and electric storms across the battlefield. Evading this boss isn’t just a matter of quick reflexes; it demands that I stay alert and aware of my surroundings to dodge those devastating attacks.

Radix Weakspot and Mechanics

Radix’s vulnerability lies in his luminescent, crimson neck, which is exposed during the entire battle. To ensure consistent hits, focus on targeting the vicinity of his head instead. If he lifts his head or if you find a suitable position, then take that opportunity to attack.

Instead, it’s best to maintain a reasonable distance from Radix during battle. If you get too near, he has a habit of pounding the ground forcefully which can be harmful. The surrounding boulders floating around him could also cause significant harm if you collide with them. So, watch your distance and keep dealing damage effectively.

Tips Against Radix

  • Always be mindful of your surroundings. Keep an eye out for incoming boulders, lightning strikes, and ground shockwaves.
  • When Radix launches multiple ground waves, you can use your Glider to avoid most of them, or stand on rocks.
  • When Radix lifts a glowing boulder, move away from any nearby rocks.
  • Bring Shock and Corrosive weapons.

Terminus Range Vault Monster: Origo

In simpler terms, Origo is a creature resembling a wyvern that possesses the ability to wield both fire and ice elements in battles. To engage opponents, he generates areas that either freeze or scorch players standing within them, based on his current elemental alignment. Consequently, it’s worth noting that Origo exhibits resistance towards damage caused by Fire and Ice attacks.

Origo Weakspot and Mechanics

Origo’s vulnerable areas are the crystals situated on his back. These spots can be easily targeted, but only when he’s down because they become obscured when he’s airborne. In combat with this boss, it would be wise to utilize your Glider extensively.

What sets Origo apart as a threat is his ability to unleash harmful breath attacks. Upon impact, these attacks not only inflict damage but also create dangerous zones associated with the element Origo is attuned to. For instance, Cryo produces chilly patches that slow and harm you, while Incendiary leaves behind trails of flames causing high damage. To navigate past these hazardous zones, look for air vents on the ground that you can use your grappling hook to access. By doing so, you’ll be propelled into the air, enabling you to glide safely over the danger zones.

Tips Against Origo

  • If Origo stops mid-flight, he’s about to do his dive attack. Dash away at the right time so he doesn’t hit you.
  • Mind the edges of the arena. Falling leads to instant death. If you fall, you can grapple back up.
  • You’ll want to stay airborne as much as possible. Pop those vents, and get to gliding.
  • All of Origo’s health bars are blue, making him weak to Shock damage.
