The objective here is to gather emerald ore for the antagonist of the base game, Void Kong.
The trailer for the new DLC of “Donkey Kong Bananza” didn’t mention its cost, but it’s currently priced at $19.99. At this price point, the DLC for “Donkey Kong Bananza” isn’t the most expensive expansion in the market, though some enthusiasts might question if it justifies the cost.
Is the DK Bananza DLC Worth It?
19.99 dollars seems a bit high considering the offerings in “Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island & Emerald Rush”. While DK Island doesn’t introduce any new banandium gems or fossils for collection (apart from the temporary ones related to Emerald Rush), it does boast bonus stages offering a load of gold. Additionally, there are some Easter eggs and nostalgic references to classic “Donkey Kong” games which are enjoyable, but not $20 worth of enjoyable. It’s evident that the main attraction is Emerald Rush, but its appeal might be limited.
In Emerald Rush, players aim to gather as much emerald ore as they can within a time frame. As players accumulate emerald ore and fossils, they unlock advantages that help them collect more ore. Emerald Rush’s debut challenge takes place on DK Island, making it an exciting area to discover. The subsequent Emerald Rush stages are situated across the layers of Donkey Kong Bananza, which might be familiar to players who completed the base game thoroughly. After a couple of hours of playing, I don’t feel much motivation to revisit Emerald Rush, but there will reportedly be limited-time events linked to the mode in the future.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is the Same Price as the DK Bananza DLC, Be Serious
For true enthusiasts of the game Donkey Kong Bananza, it might be worth spending $20 on the DLC pack, DK Island & Emerald Rush. There are moments of enjoyment to be found, but players may find that DK Island is somewhat lacking and Emerald Rush offers more of the same smashing and collecting gameplay from the original version. On the Nintendo Switch 2, you could potentially get a better gaming experience for $20.
