According to the head of Gearbox Software, Randy Pitchford, there’s a possibility that Borderlands 4 might include an adjustable Field of View (FOV) option on consoles. However, Pitchford has hinted at something in development for Borderlands 4 that could potentially impact fairness if an FOV slider is implemented. Therefore, it isn’t certain that the game will definitely offer this feature.
Although the Steam version of Borderlands 4 faced issues, the most recent installment of the well-known looter-shooter franchise received positive reviews overall, earning an average score of 85 from Top Critics on OpenCritic. However, there was a significant missing feature that console gamers quickly spotted: the absence of an FOV slider in PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, despite its availability on PC. This omission prompted some players to express their dissatisfaction online, and those complaints have reached Gearbox’s CEO.
Randy Pitchford Polls Borderlands 4 Console FOV Slider on X
In a recent post on X, Pitchford conducted a survey about the potential inclusion of an adjustable field-of-view (FOV) feature in the settings menu for Borderlands 4 on consoles. As of now, nearly all votes – approximately 91.7% from over 19,000 respondents – have shown strong support for this feature, with only a small percentage (8.3%) expressing neutrality towards it. This overwhelming majority appears to be in favor of having FOV settings available in Borderlands 4, although there’s currently no assurance that Gearbox will implement changes based on this poll.
According to Pitchford, there are dreams about Borderlands where the field of view (FOV) setting might impact the game’s fairness. However, he clarifies that his focus is on keeping Borderlands true to its essence rather than changing it significantly. Though this statement is somewhat vague, the reference to “fairness” suggests a possible multiplayer aspect. However, as of now, there’s no indication in Borderlands 4’s post-launch plan that such a feature is being developed. It’s puzzling why fairness might be an issue on consoles, especially since the PC version already includes an FOV adjustment option.

The popular video game, “Borderlands 4”, has already been well-received by players and critics alike, showing a resurgence for the series. However, it’s expected that focus will shift towards addressing fan concerns like the absence of a console Field of View (FOV) slider or ongoing PC performance troubles.
