The developers of the new Battlefield game explain that the fast turning ability, which has sparked some debate, was added to help balance the gameplay. EA has been working to improve the series and bring it back to its former glory, and while the game has seen both positive and negative reactions, it’s generally being well-received. However, some features still have players divided.
Following thorough testing in *Battlefield Labs* and a hugely popular open beta for *Battlefield 6*, EA has received a lot of player feedback. While the game’s high player numbers are encouraging, the beta revealed areas that still needed work. Developers quickly responded by making some changes based on player input, and now they’re sharing more details about one particularly debated feature.
Battlefield 6’s Quick Turn Mechanic Addresses Concerns With Controller Aim Assist
During a conversation with Kotaku, the developers of *Battlefield 6* explained that the ability to quickly turn 180 degrees was added to create a fairer playing field, especially when considering the differences between controllers and mouse/keyboard setups. According to Matthew Nickerson, a senior combat designer for consoles, aim assist naturally slows down players when aiming, making fast turns difficult. The new “Flick Stick” feature helps controller users react as quickly as those using a mouse and keyboard. While Xbox and PlayStation players can choose to play only against each other, Flick Stick aims to balance matches when playing against PC users.
The main goal of the ‘Flick Stick’ feature was to improve game balance, but it also enhances how players move and customize their experience. The upcoming *Battlefield* game features more fluid and adaptable movement than previous versions. However, the developers toned down some of these options in *Battlefield 6* after players felt it made the game less realistic. While instantly flipping around isn’t necessarily true-to-life, it gives players more combat choices, especially when used with features like the PS5’s motion aiming, as Nickerson explains.
Based on what the developers have said, the Flick Stick aiming mechanic is likely staying in the game. However, some other features that caused debate during the open beta will be adjusted in the final version. EA is reducing the strength of the auto-spotting feature in *Battlefield 6* because testers felt it made the Recon class too powerful. The game will also be showcased at the Tokyo Game Show, where more official information may be revealed soon.
