As a big fan, I’ve noticed something a little strange about the PlayStation versions of *Hollow Knight: Silksong*. It looks like they’re missing a bunch of trophies that are available on other platforms. Apparently, this might not even be the developers’ fault, but it does mean getting the platinum trophy on PS4 and PS5 seems a lot easier than on other systems. It’s a bit disappointing, honestly, but I’m still super excited to play the game!
Gameplay spoilers—detailing the premise of Silksong’s most difficult achievements—ahead.
Since its release on September 4th, some players have found *Hollow Knight: Silksong* to be very challenging, particularly at the beginning. However, for those who find the base game too easy, there are extra-hard challenges available. These include Steel Soul mode, which offers a permadeath feature – if you die, your save file is permanently deleted.
Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Hardest Achievements Aren’t Available on PlayStation
So, I was reading over at TheGamer, and it turns out there are two achievements in *Hollow Knight Silksong*’s hardcore, permadeath mode – Steel Soul and Steel Heart – that you just can’t unlock on PlayStation. You need to beat that mode, and even get 100% completion for Steel Heart, to get them. Basically, if you’re going for the platinum trophy on PS4 or PS5, it’s gonna be a lot easier than it is for players on other platforms. It’s kinda frustrating, honestly, but at least it’s a bit of a break for us PlayStation gamers!
Most Difficult Hollow Knight: Silksong Achievements Missing on PSN
- Speed Completion: Achieve 100% game completion and finish the game in under 30 hours
- PSN still has the 5-hour speedrun trophy
- Steel Soul: Finish the game in Steel Soul mode
- Steel Heart: Achieve 100% game completion and finish the game in Steel Soul mode
Okay, so I’ve been checking out the achievement lists for *Hollow Knight: Silksong* on different platforms, and it’s kinda weird. Steam and Xbox both have 52 achievements, which feels like a lot, but PlayStation only has 34. It looks like they mostly cut out the easier or less intense challenges – the really tough ones are still there. For example, they took out the achievement for beating the game in 30 hours, but kept the *super* hard one where you have to finish in just 5 hours! It’s a bit strange, but I guess it’s good they’re focusing on the more demanding stuff.
Why Is Silksong Missing Achievements on PlayStation?
Team Cherry hasn’t addressed why the new game has fewer achievements. This isn’t the first time this has happened with their games; the original *Hollow Knight* also had fewer trophies on PlayStation than on other platforms. Years ago, Sony had a rule limiting achievements in games that weren’t full price, and Platinum trophies weren’t even allowed on those games. This policy was strict enough to affect even major developers like Konami, as Hideo Kojima explained when discussing why *Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes* had fewer PlayStation trophies than versions on other systems.
This all happened over ten years ago, but nowadays, shorter lists of PlayStation trophies usually reflect a game’s design choices rather than official rules. Like in *Hollow Knight*, *Silksong*’s PlayStation achievements focus on significant story or gameplay moments, which could make earning each trophy feel more rewarding. Similar to *Hollow Knight*’s challenging permadeath mode, any achievements related to that mode aren’t available on PlayStation, even though the mode itself is still playable on both PS4 and PS5.
