One of the bosses in the upcoming game *Hollow Knight: Silksong* was originally designed by a fan who sadly passed away before the game could be released. *Hollow Knight*, the popular indie game that started it all, came out in 2017. A sequel, *Hollow Knight: Silksong*, was announced in 2019, but fans have been eagerly waiting for its release for six years.
The release of *Silksong* on September 4, 2025, was a huge success, but not without issues. Almost immediately after launch, players reported technical problems on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. The game attracted a massive number of players, even boosting the player count of the original *Hollow Knight*. However, many players found even the early mini-bosses to be incredibly challenging.
One Hollow Knight: Silksong Boss Has a Surprising Origin
One boss in *Hollow Knight: Silksong* has a particularly touching story. Seth, a Shrine Guardian in the game, was created based on a request from a fan named Seth Goldman, who used the Reddit username big_boi878. Seth was battling Ewing sarcoma and wished to meet the developers at Team Cherry. They offered him the chance to design a character for the upcoming game, and he created an NPC also named Seth. Sadly, Seth passed away shortly after, before he could play *Silksong*, but Team Cherry honored him with a special dedication in the game’s credits.
In *Hollow Knight: Silksong*, you can find Seth hidden in a secret part of the Grand Gate. He looks like an ant and fights with a pin, using a round shield that he throws at Hornet. Once you defeat him, Seth moves to Shellwood in *Silksong*.
Okay, so I’ve been playing *Hollow Knight: Silksong*, and honestly? It’s way harder than the first *Hollow Knight*. I was hoping they’d fix some of the stuff players didn’t like, but it feels like some of the changes they *did* make actually ramp up the difficulty. The boss fights are seriously longer and tougher, and enemies hit like trucks now. They also tweaked how healing works, which doesn’t help! Even just moving around as Hornet feels harder than I expected – the platforming is pretty demanding. It’s a beautiful game, but be prepared for a real challenge!

It didn’t take long for Hollow Knight: Silksong players to start creating mods to adjust the difficulty. Some mods make the game easier, like allowing Hornet to reappear on the same screen instead of at a bench, or reducing enemy damage. Others increase Hornet’s attack power, or even make the game harder for players who want a greater challenge. While some worry that these changes alter the experience Team Cherry intended, many players simply want to enjoy the game with a more comfortable level of difficulty.
