Legendary weapons in Borderlands 4 are famous for their incredibly strong and unique effects, making them highly desirable for most players. They’re especially helpful and powerful, even when you’re first starting the game.
This guide highlights some of the best legendary items you can find while playing through the main story or at the beginning of Ultimate Vault Hunter mode in *Borderlands 4*. While even more powerful weapons exist, these will help you get a good start on collecting everything the game has to offer.
Firewerks Shield
Explosions!
Source | Splashzone (Coastal Bonescape – Fadefields) |
Legendary Effect | Spawns homing missiles when an armor segment breaks or when an enemy is killed by the player. |
Having a powerful offense is often the best defense, and the Firewerks shield is perfect for players who like to create chaos. When you defeat enemies while using this shield, it automatically launches missiles at other foes. Plus, even if the shield takes damage, it will fire off another wave of missiles, dealing significant damage to anyone nearby.
Firewerks is a rare, powerful item that players can obtain from Splashzone, an early miniboss encounter on the island of Kairos.
Watts 4 Dinner Shield
Run and Gun to Stay Alive

Source | Origo (Terminus Range Vault) |
Legendary Effect | Gain increased Shock damage when Overshields are active. When you have Energy Shields, enemies have a 12% chance to drop Overshield Boosters when hit. |
Okay, so collecting all the Vault Key Fragments in *Borderlands 4* is kinda annoying, but seriously, do it! The boss Origo, out in Terminus Range, can drop this amazing legendary shield called Watts 4 Dinner. It’s a really defensive shield, and here’s the cool part: when you shoot enemies, they drop these Overshield Booster packs. You pick those up, and bam, you get an overshield! If you have a Vladof gun – or anything that shoots fast, really – just go to town shooting everything. Before you know it, the whole area will be covered in shield packs, and you’ll be practically invincible!
Watts 4 Dinner works really well with Rafa’s APOPHIS Lance setups. If you can collect the boosters, you don’t need to bother with shields.
Timekeeper’s New Shield
No Guts, No Glory

Source | The Timekeeper |
Legendary Effect | Gain bonus Max Health, Health Regeneration, and Damage Reduction at the cost of having no shields. |
If you enjoyed using the Rough Rider shield in Borderlands 2, you’ll likely appreciate Timekeeper’s New Shield. It’s a bit unusual because it doesn’t actually *provide* shields. Instead, it significantly increases your maximum health, constantly restores health over time, and, most importantly, reduces the amount of damage you take.
The Timekeeper’s New Shield is a great addition to builds focused on life steal. But, because it’s dropped by the Timekeeper, most players won’t get it until after finishing the main story in *Borderlands 4*.
AF1000 Repkit
Again!

Source | Rocken Roller (Trinket Crevass Auger Mine – Carcadia Burn) |
Legendary Effect | Very long healing duration, very short cooldown |
This Repkit is straightforward but powerful. It continuously restores your health for a significant period and is available frequently thanks to its short cooldown. While the exact stats can vary, ours heals over 20 seconds, has a 6-second cooldown, and also includes the Accelerator effect, which completely refills your Action Skill while it’s active.
Unlike some other medkits, the AF1000 doesn’t provide an immediate burst of healing. After using it, you’ll have to wait a few seconds to regain a substantial amount of health.
Pacemaker Repkit
Slow and Steady

Source | Horace (The Howl – Fadefields) |
Legendary Effect | Provides passive Health Regeneration that gets stronger the lower your health is. |
If you need reliable healing, the Pacemaker is a great choice. Simply equipping it provides a constant, passive health boost, and that boost actually *increases* as your health gets lower. Plus, it still works as a standard Repkit, giving you an immediate burst of health and continued healing over time.
Each Pacemaker you find is unique, offering different benefits that could be exactly what your character needs. To get more of them, your best option is to repeatedly defeat Horace, the boss located in Horace’s Oversight near The Launchpad in the Fadefields.
Aegon’s Dream
Finish the Song!
Source | Horace (The Howl – Fadefields) |
Legendary Effect | Fires Cryo and Incendiary rounds. |
The Aegon’s Dream is a powerful assault rifle, especially good for players who focus on elemental effects or like to fire rapidly. It’s unique because it can inflict both Cryo and Incendiary damage simultaneously, making it a great fit for characters like Amon or Vex. Keep in mind, like all Vladof weapons, it uses ammo very quickly, so upgrading your storage devices (SDUs) is important to avoid constantly reloading.
You can obtain Aegon’s Dream from Horace, similar to how you get the Pacemaker. This weapon is specifically designed to drop from him, making it a more reliable reward compared to items dropped by other bosses.
Hellfire SMG
Set the World on Fire

Source | Skyspanner Kratch (Cuspid Climb – Terminus Range) |
Legendary Effect | Deals very high Incendiary DoT. |
The Hellfire SMG returns in this version and is even more powerful. Its main purpose is to set enemies ablaze. What’s new in this game is that it can now be found with underbarrel attachments that do massive damage to vulnerable targets. Combining a Hellfire with a Shrapnel Cannon is particularly effective.
You can obtain this weapon by defeating the Skyspanner Kratch in Terminus Range. You’ll encounter this enemy during the Shadow of the Mountain quest, and afterward, you can repeatedly farm it using Moxxi’s Encore machine.
Complex Root Sniper Rifle
The Titan Slayer

Source | Mimicron (Tipping Point Order Bunker) |
Legendary Effect | Fires projectiles that branch out into more projectiles. |
When taking on huge enemies, like the big bosses in Vaults, you’ll want a gun that can quickly land multiple hits. The Complex Root is similar to a popular gun from past games, the Lyuda, and it’s incredibly effective against these massive opponents in *Borderlands 4*. Even a relatively low-level Complex Root – around level 28 – can easily defeat Vault bosses that are significantly higher level, like 40 or above, using just a few magazines of ammo.
You can obtain this item from Mimicron, a boss located within the Tipping Point Order Bunker in the Fadefields.
You can also obtain this weapon by defeating the Ripper bosses located west-southwest of Fortress Indomita in the Drill Site.
Convergence Shotgun
An Old Friend

Source | Bramblesong (Bittervein Auger Mine – Stoneblood Forest, Terminus Range) |
Legendary Effect | Projectiles converge and hit their primary target again. |
Convergence works similarly to the Complex Root perk, but it’s designed for single targets. When you fire this special shotgun, each pellet returns to the initial target, effectively hitting it twice and dealing significant damage.
You can get this shotgun by defeating Bramblesong, a large Kratch enemy in Terminus Range. Beating this boss is required to progress through the Ultimate Vault Hunter levels.
Transmitter Grenade
It Just Works

Source | World Drop |
Legendary Effect | Grenade continuously fires projectiles at nearby enemies. |
Okay, so the Transmitter grenade? Seriously, it’s amazing for clearing out groups of enemies. Its special ability makes it act like a mini-turret once you throw it, automatically targeting and shooting everything nearby. It’s just super effective against most things. And sometimes, weirdly, it absolutely *destroys* big bosses like the Battle Wagon – like, three seconds flat. We have no idea why it does that, honestly, it’s just a lucky glitch or something!
We haven’t discovered which boss specifically drops this grenade, but it will eventually appear as a reward from any boss or red chest. Just keep playing, and you’ll find it!
Swarm Grenade
Not the Bees!

Source | Sidney Pointylegs (The Prospects Drill Site – Hungering Plain, Fadefields) |
Legendary Effect | Projectile splits into smaller, target-seeking projectiles that continuously attack enemies. |
The Swarm grenade, similar to the Transmitter, is a versatile and effective explosive in Borderlands 4. When you throw it, it homes in on nearby enemies and breaks apart into smaller projectiles that swarm and damage them. These grenades come in various versions, and some can even restore your health on impact.
You can get Swarm grenades by defeating Sidney Pointylegs in The Prospects, a location within the Hungering Plain’s Ripper Drill Sites.
