As a passionate gamer, I couldn’t be happier to hear that the captivating and Max Payne-inspired third-person shooter, El Paso, Elsewhere, is finally making its way to PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2024. Having missed out on this game during its initial release in 2023, I’m eager to immerse myself in its unique blend of Max Payne-style gameplay and supernatural elements.

For individuals who own a PlayStation 5 and have a fondness for third-person shooter games, mark the calendar for September 6. This highly-praised addition to the genre, which was unfortunately absent from PlayStation 5 at its initial 2023 launch, will be available on Sony’s latest console that day. Previously excluded from PlayStation 5 users, they will soon have the opportunity to enjoy this third-person shooter title on their preferred platform within a short span of less than two months.

The PlayStation 5 boasts an impressive collection of third-person shooters, both multiplatform and exclusive. Games such as “Fortnite,” “The Division 2,” “Warframe,” and “Helldivers 2” provide PS5 users with an enjoyable multiplayer experience. Conversely, titles like “Control,” “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Red Dead Redemption 2,” “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart,” “Returnal,” and “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” offer immersive single-player campaigns with captivating stories and spectacular action sequences. Notably, a standout single-player game from this genre that hasn’t yet graced the PlayStation platform is the critically-acclaimed, Max Payne-inspired shooter “El Paso, Elsewhere.”

El Paso, Elsewhere is Coming to PlayStation 5 This September

Indie studio Strange Scaffold unveiled “El Paso, Elsewhere” in 2023, a captivating third-person shooter with a nostalgic aesthetic. Debuting on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on September 26, this title garnered widespread acclaim from players and critics alike. Many admirers hailed it as an authentic tribute to the “Max Payne” series while also recognizing its innovative elements. However, its absence on PlayStation consoles left fans disappointed initially. Recently, Strange Scaffold announced exciting news: “El Paso, Elsewhere” will be available on PS5 starting September 6, 2024.

El Paso, Elsewhere Will Reach a New Audience on PS5

In contrast to the impressive reviews it gained on Steam, Metacritic, and the Microsoft Store in 2023, the third-person shooter game “El Paso, Elsewhere” was relatively underappreciated. This oversight can be largely attributed to a minimal marketing campaign for the title. Consequently, the announcement of its revival on PlayStation 5 brings delight to both PlayStation enthusiasts and Strange Scaffold, its developer.

El Paso, Elsewhere is Inspired by Max Payne

One reason PlayStation 5 players might be interested in “El Paso, Elsewhere” is that it follows the blueprint of a seminal work in the third-person shooter genre, specifically the “Max Payne” series. Created by Remedy Entertainment, the initial installments of this franchise are renowned for setting trends in the early 2000s. They paved the way for sophisticated narrative approaches and the widespread adoption of bullet-time gameplay mechanics within the third-person genre.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been longing for new experiences that remind me of the immersive neo-noir world and thrilling bullet-time gameplay found in the Max Payne series on PS5. Sadly, there have been few titles that have managed to replicate this unique combination created by Remedy Entertainment. To add fuel to the fire, my fellow PlayStation enthusiasts and I have been left out of playing the second installment in the franchise, Max Payne 2, and its Rockstar Games sequel, Max Payne 3, on our current consoles. However, the upcoming game El Paso, Elsewhere is set to grace us with its presence on PS5, finally filling the void left by these beloved titles.

El Paso, Elsewhere Mixes the Max Payne Formula With the Supernatural

As a gamer, I can tell you that Elsewhere, an indie third-person shooter, offers a unique take on the genre, despite being influenced by Remedy’s legendary Max Payne series. The game combines the slow-motion gunplay and ominous ambiance of Max Payne with a dose of the uncanny and supernatural. In Elsewhere, I play as James Savage, a drug-addled vampire hunter, who must navigate through hordes of monstrous creatures in a motel that shifts between realities. The stakes are high, as my ex-girlfriend, a powerful vampire, threatens to bring about the end of the world.

Unique as it is, El Paso, Elsewhere may not resonate with a broad PlayStation 5 audience when launched later this year. However, Strange Scaffold’s quirky third-person shooter could emerge as a standout among indie games for some PS5 owners.
