Concept Art of Pheonix Labs’ Canceled “Project Dragon” Surfaces Online

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for sandbox survival RPGs, the news of Project Dragon’s cancellation hit me hard. Three long years I had waited in anticipation for this cosy, block-building, fantasy world filled with quests and adventures reminiscent of Minecraft and Breath of the Wild.

Online, the initial concept art for “Project Dragon,” which was unfortunately scrapped by Phenoix Labs, has become accessible to the public.

I’m a huge fan of Nicholas Kole’s character design and illustration work. Yesterday, he shared disappointing news that his three-year-long project, which aimed to breathe life into a game, had been canceled. Unfortunately, we don’t have any specifics about the reasons behind this decision yet.

Kole describes Project Dragon as “a cozy sandbox survival game, blending elements of crafting and RPG genres, featuring a buildable block-based world reminiscent of Minecraft populated with enchanting characters and captivating quests inspired by Breath of the Wild.”

In spite of the game being called off, we’ll have the opportunity to gauge its potential appearance based on recently unveiled artwork from Pheonix Labs. So far, Kole has released two previews, with further images set to be disclosed imminently (we’ll keep you posted).
