How to Get a Bo Staff in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

As a big fan of *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, I’m so excited about the *Claws of Awaji* expansion! We already had a ton of weapon options for both Naoe and Yasuke, but now Naoe can wield a Bo staff, which is awesome. And the best part? Even if you don’t have the DLC, you can actually earn the Bo staff just by playing the main game! It’s a free reward for all *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* players.

While many of the best Bo staffs are available as part of the *Claws of Awaji* DLC, Ubisoft is letting all *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* players try out the weapon with a free introductory quest. Here’s how to get your first Bo staff in the game.

How to Get a Bo Staff in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Bo staffs are commonly found on Awaji Island, which is where the *Claws of Awaji* story expansion takes place. But you don’t need the expansion to get one! After finishing the main story in the base game, you can complete a quest called “Go With the Bo” to earn a basic Bo staff.

You can find this quest southwest of the Hideout. Simply go there and talk to Junjiro to begin learning the Bo fighting style. However, it won’t become available until you’ve finished the main story of *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* – that means completing the personal stories of Naoe, Yasuke, and Junjiro, and defeating all the major Shinbakufu and Templar enemies. The good news is this quest is free; you don’t need to own the *Claws of Awaji* DLC to start it.

If you have the *Claws of Awaji* DLC, you’ll find even better Bo staffs throughout the game. On Awaji Island, Bo staffs are part of the standard loot you can earn, along with the weapons from the main game. After you’ve made good progress in *Claws of Awaji*, Bo staffs will also start appearing as loot on the mainland. However, the most powerful Bo staffs can only be found in castles and other key locations on Awaji Island.

Only Naoe can use Bo staffs. Yasuke continues to use his standard weapons throughout the *Claws of Awaji* DLC. If you’re building a Naoe character in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, be sure to find Bo staffs to maximize her potential.
