Ahead of the October launch of Battlefield 6, DICE has unveiled a new set of maps, and one in particular is generating a lot of excitement. During a recent preview event, Game Rant had the chance to play two maps: Mirak Valley and a reimagined version of the classic Battlefield map, Operation Firestorm. While Operation Firestorm is a beloved map, Mirak Valley stood out as a highlight, feeling like an improved version of Hainan Resort from Battlefield 4.
Mirak Valley and the Hainan Resort map from *Battlefield 4* seem quite different at first glance. Hainan Resort was a lush, tropical setting with lots of boats, while Mirak Valley is a more countryside environment specifically created for tank battles. However, they both offer similar gameplay experiences. Both maps are best suited for large-scale team modes like the classic *Battlefield* Conquest, but also include areas for smaller, more focused modes like Squad Deathmatch.
Battlefield 6’s Mirak Valley and Battlefield 4’s Hainan Resort Are Two Sides of the Same Coin
Hainan Resort centered around one huge hotel, complete with rooftop access via elevators, and it towered over the entire map. As the only prominent building, it quickly became a major battleground for players – snipers and machine gunners would race to the roof, creating just as much action inside the hotel. While exciting, it was often chaotic. Beyond the beautiful scenery and the ability to destroy the building with one of Battlefield 4‘s signature levelutions, the resort didn’t offer a lot of unique gameplay features.
Players may recognize Tajikistan as the location featured in the *Battlefield 6* beta map, Liberation Peak. While Liberation Peak was a relatively small, snowy mountain area, the new Mirak Valley map is much larger and designed for more extensive use of ground and air vehicles.
Okay, so I got to check out Mirak Valley, and it’s totally different from Hainan Resort. It’s set in Tajikistan, a huge area that looks like it’s been through a war, and I’m guessing that’s going to be a big part of the story in *Battlefield 6*. The main action seems to happen around this massive construction site in the middle of the map – it’s mostly ruins, but it’s a really obvious place for infantry fights. There are two villages on either side, one completely wrecked and one still standing, but that central construction zone really stands out. Even though it’s different overall, when you get down to the core gameplay, it feels like a clear improvement over Hainan Resort, especially with things like the waterways and boat channels they’ve added.
Mirak Valley’s Subtle Changes Improve Hainan Resort’s Design In a Big Way

Okay, so Mirak Valley takes the basic layout of Hainan Resort – where infantry fights inside buildings and vehicles circle around outside – and just *refines* it. The biggest change is that the main fight area is now split into two buildings instead of one big one. But here’s the cool part: there’s this crazy crane right between them! It’s super high up and honestly looks a little unstable, but it’s become a real focal point during rooftop battles – a lot of us are getting distracted trying to snipe from or shoot *at* it!
Although the new Battlefield 6 map is one of the biggest yet, it also features two uniquely designed areas specifically for smaller, close-quarters battles and other infantry-centered game types.
Players can now reach the roof directly, eliminating a major bottleneck that often trapped those on Hainan Resort against strong defenders. The crane provides a way for players without high ground to challenge those who are overlooking them. Skilled players can even use explosives to bring the crane down, partially destroying the building and creating a debris-filled obstacle course in the alleyway – thanks to the improved destruction system in *Battlefield 6*.
Mirak Valley is One of Battlefield 6’s Best Maps So Far

The main difference between these two versions of the map is that one features two buildings instead of one, and a crane to demolish instead of a hotel. However, it’s hard to fully explain how much better this change makes the gameplay. Destroying the hotel in the Hainan Resort version significantly reduces the fun. While the map’s elevators were interesting at first, they ultimately limited its potential to be a truly great Battlefield map. Mirak Valley’s design, with its separate buildings, solves the problem of the main structure feeling too cramped, creating infantry battles that are still intense, but much more open and breathable.
Players at the preview event overwhelmingly liked the new map, which is especially encouraging because they tested it in three different game modes: Conquest, Breakthrough, and the new Escalation mode. The map felt smooth and well-balanced even in focused modes like the new Breakthrough. If the quality of Mirak Valley is representative of the other upcoming maps, Battlefield 6 could be a major turning point for the series.
