Rumors suggest Nintendo Switch Online might soon offer achievements and rewards for playing games. Nintendo fans have been requesting this feature for a while, and if true, it could significantly improve the value of a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
Nintendo Switch Online is a subscription service that launched in 2018, offering features like online multiplayer, cloud saves for your games, and special perks. A key benefit is access to a library of classic games from systems like the NES, Super NES, and Game Boy. If you subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, you can also play select titles from the N64, Sega Genesis, Game Boy Advance, and even GameCube (if you have a Switch 2 console).
New Rumor Indicates Missions, Rewards, and Achievements Coming to Nintendo Switch Online
A recent rumor from Spanish leaker Nash Weedle suggests Nintendo Switch Online might be getting an Achievement system. This system would reward players points for playing games and completing challenges within those games – like beating a boss without taking damage – which could unlock special rewards. Players could earn points by completing in-game achievements, and Weedle hints these achievements might be visible to friends. He also suggests the possibility of automatically redeeming favorite rewards or even trading them with others, as long as you have enough points. Of course, using this system would require an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Gamers should be cautious about these rumors. While Nash Weedle is a reliable source of leaks, this isn’t confirmed information yet. Nintendo Switch Online is updated often, and Weedle thinks these particular changes should come soon.
Gamers can continue to enjoy all the current features of the service while they wait for more updates. Recently, Nintendo Switch Online added a popular feature: the ability to customize controls for Game Boy Advance games. This followed a similar update in late August that allowed players to remap controls for Super NES games.
In the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo announced that subscribers will be able to play Virtual Boy games starting February 17, 2026. Last week, prices for Virtual Boy accessories for the Switch were announced: the complete device costs $100 through the Nintendo shop, while a simpler cardboard headset is available for $25.
