As a long-time gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of excitement and nostalgia upon hearing about Firewalk Studios’ decision to extend the closed beta for their upcoming live-service title, Concord. Having witnessed the evolution of the hero shooter genre through games like Overwatch and Valorant, I’ve grown fond of the fast-paced action and teamwork these titles offer.

Firewalk Studios, the development team behind “Concord,” has revealed that the closed beta testing for their live-service title will last an extra day. Originally planned from July 12 to July 14, participants now have until July 15 to continue playing the 5v5 hero shooter.

Back in 2023 at the PlayStation Showcase, I was thrilled to see the announcement of “Concord” through an impressive CGI trailer. It marked the return of PlayStation to creating first-person shooter games in-house, a genre they’ve mostly avoided since “Killzone: Shadow Fall” in 2013. During the May 2024 State of Play event, we got a sneak peek into the gameplay for “Concord.” I was blown away as it turned out to be a 5v5 sci-fi hero shooter, similar to “Overwatch” and “Valorant,” but with elements reminiscent of Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Alongside the thrilling gameplay reveal, Firewalk Studios also confirmed that “Concord” would be available for purchase starting August 23, 2024. Plus, they offered a closed beta test period in mid-July for those lucky enough to have pre-ordered the game.

At the end of June, Firewalk revealed that the closed beta for “Concord” would take place from July 12 to July 14. Just before the beta began on PlayStation 5 and PC, Firewalk made it accessible to PlayStation Plus members without requiring a pre-order. Originally planned to conclude on July 14, Firewalk has since confirmed via their Twitter account that they will prolong the “Concord” beta by an extra day. The closed beta for “Concord” is now scheduled to finish on Monday, July 15, at noon PDT / 1 pm MDT / 2 pm CDT / 3 pm EDT.

Concord Closed Beta Period Extension Times

Monday, July 15, 2024

  • North America: 12pm PDT / 1pm MDT / 2pm CDT / 3pm EDT
  • UK/Ireland: 8pm BST
  • Europe: 9pm CEST / 10pm EEST
  • Asia/Oceania: 4am (Tue) JST / 3am (Tue) AWST / 5am (Tue) AEST

The closed beta test for “Concord” by Firewalk Studios will be expanded to accommodate all previous eligible participants on both PS5 and PC platforms. This decision may not be a positive sign for the game’s popularity, as the peak concurrent player count during the beta on Steam was only 1,124, and the addition of PlayStation Plus users might not have resulted in impressive pre-order numbers for this live-service hero shooter. Nevertheless, Firewalk is planning to hold an open beta event from July 18 to July 21, providing an opportunity for all players on PS5 and PC to try out the game.

The open beta of Concord provides an opportunity for players to gain a clearer perspective on how they feel about the game. Currently, there isn’t much excitement surrounding Concord on PC, which could be due to some players finding its hero shooter elements uninspiring and the need for a Sony account login being a turnoff. However, even though the situation seems unfavorable, if Concord manages to capture the interest of a larger audience through its unique gameplay and concepts, it has the potential to succeed despite the current lackluster reception on PC.
