Mortal Kombat 1 trailer shows next DLC fighter, Takeda Takahashi

As a long-time fan of Mortal Kombat, I can’t help but get excited about the latest addition to the roster: Takeda Takahashi. His backstory resonates deeply with me, as I too have seen the transformative power of redemption and the allure of a new path.

In simple terms, Mortal Kombat 1’s latest trailer, unveiled by NetherRealm Studios and Warner BBros, introduces the upcoming downloadable character – Takeda Takahashi.

Typically, the most recent fighter in the downloadable content (DLC) for Kombat Pack will be accessible starting July 23rd for early access if you’ve purchased that DLC. On July 30th, Takeda Takahashi will be open to all players.

Just like his relative Kenshi, Takeda Takahashi grew up in the Yakuza world. In contrast to him, Takeda relished this way of life. He was therefore entrusted with the task of stopping Kenshi’s rebellion against their masters. However, their confrontation left Takeda critically injured. To save his life, Kenshi transported him to the Shirai Ryu, the protectors of Earthrealm. Even after Takeda recovered, Kenshi refused to let go of him, fearing that the Yakuza would punish him for not completing his mission. Desperate to leave, Takeda kept trying to escape. But as time went by, he began to admire the Shirai Ryu’s unwavering dedication to Earthrealm, a stark difference from his previous life of crime.

Takeda vowed to uproot Earthrealm’s underworld completely, but he was in for a surprise – it turned out to be stronger and more intricately connected than he had imagined. In the latest video, we get to see Takeda’s moveset in action, showcasing his Shirai Ryu techniques. He uses sharp whips with jagged edges to tug and hurl opponents, employs explosive kunai for longer combos, and demonstrates his proficiency in teleportation by catching enemies off guard from behind.

Additionally, starting July 23rd, Ferra, a new downloadable character in Kameo Fighters (assisting during matches), can be purchased separately or for those with the Kombat Pack. At Evo from July 19th to 21st, both Takeda and Ferra will be playable. If you’re planning on attending at Las Vegas Convention Center West Hall, this is an opportunity to try them out.

Mortal Kombat 1 is out now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S|X.
