As a long-time Halo gamer, I’ve spent countless hours battling against the formidable Covenant alien forces. The designs of these extraterrestrial beings have always been one of the most captivating aspects of this iconic sci-fi universe. The Covenant in Halo boasts unique visuals, immersive gameplay experiences, and rich lore that keeps me engaged and invested in the franchise.

In an outstanding Sci-Fi setting, exceptional alien characters are essential, particularly when they significantly influence the storyline. Fortunately, Halo offers impressive alien designs from gaming, including its Covenant adversaries. These aliens not only showcase visually stunning concepts but also provide engaging gameplay features and thought-provoking backstories.

In the present “Halo” universe, the Covenant is a collective consisting of eight distinct extraterrestrial beings. All of these beings follow the same faith, which is frequently called ‘The Great Voyage.’ The Covenant is governed by the Prophets and embarks on a cosmic quest to discover relics from an ancient civilization, the Forerunners. These artifacts are coveted fiercely by the Covenant, who will go to extreme lengths to be the sole possessors of them. In their pursuit, they engage in warfare with humanity. Although all units within the Covenant are renowned, the extent of their violent capabilities differs significantly among them.

S-Tier Covenant Units in Halo

The Most Deadly Covenant Units

  • Elites (Sangheili)
  • Brutes (Jiralhanae)
  • Hunters (Mgalekgolo)

In my experience as a devoted fan of the Halo franchise, I’d like to share some insights about the Covenant, a fascinating alliance in this epic universe. Among its diverse inhabitants, there are eight distinct species, and three of them, which I’ll discuss here, are renowned for their lethal capabilities.

In my gaming experience, the Brutes were initially a secondary menace to the Elites in “Halo 2.” However, they seized the limelight in “Halo 3,” becoming one of the principal threats to human survival. Although they may not don shields, these adversaries boast formidable armor and weaponry that surpasses the Elites’ plasma armament. What sets Brutes apart is their capacity to enter a berserker frenzy. During this state, they can charge across battlefields with lightning speed and unleash devastating melee attacks.

Having spent years in the thick of battles as a seasoned member of the Covenant military, I can confidently attest to the formidable might of Hunters. They may appear as mere swarms of orange, worm-like creatures, but do not let their unassuming appearance deceive you. These beings are not only natural allies of the Covenant, but also some of its strongest units.

A-Tier Covenant Units in Halo

Covenant Units That Pack a Punch

  • Jackals (Kig-Yar)
  • Skirmishers (T’vaoan)

Jackals, despite being relatively simple to eliminate in theory, represent formidable adversaries within the Covenant ranks. While unarmed Jackals carrying only a Plasma Pistol and a point defense gauntlet can be swiftly dealt with, those armed with long-range Beam Rifles pose significant danger, capable of eliminating a Spartan soldier with a single precise shot. Skirmishers, a subgroup of Kig-Yar, exhibit strong combat skills. Darting around the battlefield at impressive velocities and safeguarding themselves from enemy fire using small, shields attached to their arms.

B-Tier Covenant Units in Halo

Covenant Units That Put Up a Fight

  • Drones (Yanme’e)
  • Prophets (San’Shyuum)

Although a single well-aimed bullet can theoretically bring down a Covenant Drone, these machines prove to be more elusive than their unassuming appearance suggests. Agile fliers, they dart about at great speeds and can overwhelm adversaries in large groups. Consequently, individuals lacking heavy protective gear are put at risk when confronting these drones. In contrast, the Prophets present a less formidable challenge. Essentially, they represent vulnerable beings confined to hovering chairs. Nevertheless, these hovering thrones are frequently outfitted with advanced Covenant technology, making them a noteworthy threat despite their seemingly weakened state.

C-Tier Covenant Units in Halo

Covenant Cannon Fodder

  • Grunts (Unggoy)
  • Engineers (Huragok)

At the lowest rung, Halo’s Grunts serve as dispensable soldiers for the Covenant. They are often sent in large groups to face the enemy and are generally easy prey. A few Grunts may acquire potent weapons or exhibit fanatical devotion leading to spectacular suicide attacks. However, the majority can be effortlessly eliminated. Engineers, who provide assistance to other Covenant units, rank last on this list by mere association.
