As a huge fan of Astro Bot and the enchanting world of these adorable robots, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard about their upcoming adventure. The announcement during Sony’s State of Play event left me in awe, and since then, I’ve been eagerly anticipating every new detail that emerged about this game.

The lovable robots in Astro’s Playroom, which captured the hearts of new PS5 users by residing in our controllers, have now grown beyond their small screens and are set to embark on exciting journeys with the developers at Team Asobi. Instead of just living within our gaming devices, they will be taking on bigger adventures.

It’s easy to picture why the enhanced and charming characters became everyone’s top pick following their unveiling at Sony’s State of Play event, even if they eventually slipped to third place due to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 taking the lead. Astro Bot, the sequel to the popular Astro’s Playroom, is set to be released in about two months for PS5, but before then, the director of Team Asobi wants fans to understand that the studio is focusing on optimizing the game’s frame rate.

When discussing Astro Bots with CGMagazine, Team Asobi’s director, Nicolas Doucet, shared that minimizing frame losses was a top priority for their upcoming game, despite the significance of graphics and resolution in video games. Inquired about sacrificing visuals to preserve the game’s overall smoothness, Doucet emphasized that this was non-negotiable for Astro Bot’s development.

In his own words, Doucet expressed that every game encounters frame rate loss at some point, and it’s inevitable. However, for their game “Astro Bot,” keeping a consistent 60 frames per second is non-negotiable. The game should never dip below this mark, even if it means sacrificing resolution or graphics. According to him, this aspect takes priority over anything else. Furthermore, Doucet emphasized the importance of the feel-good sensation when players jump and run in their game. Additionally, the physics, particularly those involving interactive elements, necessitate significant power usage but are vital for an engaging gameplay experience.

Our game may not be the most visually stunning, but we aim for a more understated and graceful aesthetic.

To prevent Astro Bot from feeling monotonous for players, Team Asobi aimed to ensure the game wouldn’t outlast its charm by including only essential elements. With approximately 80 levels to explore and master, Astro Bot promises to leave players feeling content when it launches globally on PS5 on September 26.
