It’s surprisingly easy to get powerful items by repeatedly defeating bosses in Borderlands 4. Even early bosses, like Splashzone, can drop some of the game’s best gear.
You’ll encounter Splashzone early in *Borderlands 4* during Claptrap’s first quest, which unlocks gliding and establishes your initial safe haven on Kairos. While he might seem like a minor boss, Splashzone is actually a valuable enemy to revisit often as you gain levels. This guide explains how to farm Splashzone for his unique legendary items in *Borderlands 4*.
Where to Find Splashzone in Borderlands 4
You can find Splashzone in Riptide Grotto, a bandit camp on the southern coast of the Coastal Bonescape in the Fadefields. To get there, fast travel to the Abandoned Post safehouse, then head east until you see some ponds. Turn south from the ponds, and you’ll be able to drop down into Riptide Grotto.
Feel free to skip the bandits at Riptide Grotto and head directly to Splashzone’s arena, which is in the middle of the enemy camp. The Moxxi’s Big Encore machine is a short distance east of the arena, just past the broken bridge. You’ll also find an ammo vendor close by where you can sell extra items to earn money for your next fight.
Splashzone Legendary Drops
Splashzone can drop three legendary items once he’s defeated in Borderlands 4.
| Legendary | Effect |
|---|---|
| Firewerks (Shield) | Bundled: On kill, spawns missiles that home in on nearby enemies. |
| Jelly (Grenade) | Self-Replicating: Spawns duplicate grenades. |
| Lead Balloon (Shotgun) | Lightweight: Projectiles float upward and spawn child projectiles upon exploding. |
If you’re looking for a great shield from Splashzone, Firewerks is the top choice. This powerful shield launches homing missiles every time you defeat an enemy, significantly boosting your damage. It also frequently comes with the Missile Swarm perk, which releases even more missiles when an enemy’s armor is destroyed.
Jelly and Lead Balloon are both good choices, though not quite as powerful as Firewerks. Jelly is useful for controlling groups of enemies because it creates a copy of itself when it explodes. Lead Balloon excels in group fights too, as its floating projectiles can cover a wide area with damage.
Splashzone is a really easy boss to defeat repeatedly for loot. He has very little health and is conveniently located near a fast travel point, making him a great place to quickly get new gear. When you’ve had enough of Splashzone, you can explore other legendary item farming locations in *Borderlands 4*.
