As a long-time survivor main in Dead by Daylight, I’ve spent countless hours hiding and outmaneuvering killers to ensure my team’s survival. But let me tell you, things have changed since these new killer builds entered the scene!
In the thrilling world of “Dead by Daylight,” each Killer character comes with an intriguing backstory and distinct abilities. Ranging from the psychopathic Michael Myers to the monstrous The Dredge, these terrifying figures bring unique chills to the game. Although they possess formidable powers compared to Survivors, the Killers face their own challenges in securing a victory. Skilled groups of Survivors can turn even proficient Killers into novices.
In the game “Dead by Daylight,” killers aim to gain every edge possible. Currently, over 100 usable killer perks exist, which can be customized into various setups. Since each Killer possesses distinct characteristics, not all builds will bring optimal results for every character. It’s recommended to explore different perks based on your preferred Killer, but versatile builds can also prove effective.
The Beginner Build
In “Dead by Daylight,” not all players have acquired every Killer perk from DLC or the Shrine of Secrets. This strategy is intended for newcomers who haven’t purchased the base game Killers’ Bloodwebs yet. By using Sloppy Butcher, Spies from the Shadows, and Bitter Murmur perks, you can slow down Survivors’ healing with each basic attack. Once Hex: No One Escapes Death is activated in the endgame, this effective combination of perks won’t necessitate a significant investment of money or Iridescent Shards.
- Bitter Murmur (General Perk) – Each time a generator is completed, the auras of Survivors within 16 meters of that generator are revealed for 5 seconds. Once the last generator is complete, all Survivors’ auras are revealed for 10 seconds.
- Hex: No One Escapes Death (General Perk) – After the final generator is completed, all Survivors suffer from the Exposed status ailment, and you gain a 4% Haste effect until the Hex Totem is cleansed.
- Sloppy Butcher (General Perk) – Basic attacks inflict the Mangled and Hemorrhage status ailments for 90 seconds, slowing down healing by 25% and regressing healing progress when left unfinished.
- Spies From the Shadows (General Perk) – When within 36 meters of a crow startled by a Survivor, you gain a loud noise notification.
The Meta Build
As a long-time player of the grueling survival horror game Dead by Daylight, I’ve seen it all. Some perks, however, have proven themselves to be reliable and effective across various Killer builds. These gems are a go-to for those seeking a winning combination, but let me make this clear: Perks don’t win games; players do.
- Corrupt Intervention (The Plague) – At the start of the trial, the 3 generators furthest from the Killer’s starting location are blocked for 120 seconds or until the first Survivor is downed.
- Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance (The Artist) – The Killer starts with four tokens. For each different Survivor hooked on a white Scourge Hook, lose one token and explode the generator with the most progress, causing it to lose 25% of its progress.
- Agitation (The Trapper) – While carrying a Survivor, the Killers’ movement speed is increased by 18% and their Terror Radius is increased by 12 meters.
- No Way Out (The Trickster) – When a Survivor interacts with an exit gate at the end of the trial, the Killer will receive a noise notification and the exit gates will be blocked for 12 seconds, plus another 12 seconds for each new Survivor hooked.
The Information Build
Finding the Survivors is crucial in winning as the Killer, making it essential to know their whereabouts. Survivors often attempt to remain unnoticed while injured. To efficiently locate Survivors, players should focus on acquiring information-rich Perks. This setup includes Hex: Ruin and Surveillance to monitor generator repairs, while Hex: Undying and Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance promote lethal generator progression throughout the trial.
- Hex: Undying (The Blight) – Once per trial, when a Hex Totem is cleansed, the effect of that Hex is transferred to another Totem. Furthermore, Survivors standing within 4 meters of a Dull Totem have their auras revealed.
- Hex: Ruin (The Hag) – As long as the Hex Totem remains standing, all Survivors not working on progressed generators will immediately begin to regress. This effect is removed once the first Survivor is killed.
- Surveillance (The Pig) – Any regressing generator will be highlighted in white. If the generator begins to be worked on, it will be highlighted in yellow for the next 16 seconds. Generator repair noises are made audible by an additional 8 meters.
- Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance (The Artist) – The Killer starts with four tokens. For each different Survivor hooked on a white Scourge Hook, lose one token and explode the generator with the most progress, causing it to lose 25% of its progress.
The Slowdown Build
As a fan, I’d describe it like this: If you’re seeking an uncomplicated approach to decrease generator speeds without relying on Scourge Hooks, then give this build a try. With the Entity on your side, generators and exit gates are passively obstructed, allowing you to focus more on other aspects of the game without constantly interacting with them. However, don’t overlook the importance of kicking progressed generators, even when Survivors are in proximity.
- Deadlock (The Cenobite) – After a generator is repaired, the generator with the most progress is blocked for 25 seconds.
- Grim Embrace (The Artist) – Each time The Killer hooks a new Survivor, all generators are blocked for 12 seconds after moving 16 meters away from the hook. Upon hooking each Survivor once, all generators are blocked for 40 seconds and the Obsession’s aura is revealed for six seconds.
- No Way Out (The Trickster) – When a Survivor interacts with an exit gate at the end of the trial, the Killer will receive a noise notification and the exit gates will be blocked for 12 seconds, plus another 12 seconds for each new Survivor hooked.
- Corrupt Intervention (The Plague) – At the start of the trial, the 3 generators furthest from the Killer’s starting location are blocked for 120 seconds or until the first Survivor is downed.
The Chase Build
As a fan of playing Killer, I’ve found a strategy to transform those irritating pallets into deadly obstacles instead. By incorporating Enduring and Spirit Fury perks, I can endure any stun effect after breaking two pallets, leaving Survivors open to my attacks. Simultaneously, the Scourge Hook add-ons Pain Resonance and Corrupt Intervention come in handy, slowing down the game’s pace significantly.
- Enduring (The Hillbilly) – Pallet stun duration is reduced by 50%.
- Spirit Fury (The Spirit) – After breaking 2 pallets, the next pallet stun will instantly break the pallet.
- Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance (The Artist) – The Killer starts with four tokens. For each different Survivor hooked on a white Scourge Hook, lose one token and explode the generator with the most progress, causing it to lose 25% of its progress.
- Corrupt Intervention (The Plague) – At the start of the trial, the 3 generators furthest from the Killer’s starting location are blocked for 120 seconds or until the first Survivor is downed.
The Hex Build
Hex builds enable Killers to convert dormant Hex Totems scattered across the map into potent versions. These Totems grant exceptional Killer benefits, albeit with the drawback of being susceptible to cleansing by Survivors. Consequently, constructing a Hex Build involves taking significant risks. Fortunately, perks like Hex: Pentimento keep some worth even after cleansing, as they decrease generator repair rates for one token. With Hex: Plaything, Survivors are compelled to invest time in cleansing Totems or risk being oblivious to the Killer’s Terror Radius. Hex: Thrill of the Hunt retards Totem cleansing progress, making their removal more arduous without confrontation. Lastly, Hex: Devour Hope becomes increasingly perilous for Survivors as it collects tokens, giving you an opportunity to instant-down healthy Survivors when it reaches five tokens.
- Hex: Thrill of the Hunt (General Perk) – For each Dull and Hex Totem remaining on the map, the Survivors’ cleansing and blessing speed is reduced by 10%.
- Hex: Pentimento (The Artist) – Cleansed Totems can be rekindled for an additional effect, each decreasing repair, healing, recovery, and exit gate opening speeds by 30%.
- Hex: Devour Hope (The Hag) – When a Survivor is unhooked from at least 24 meters away, this perk gains a token. At 2 tokens, gain a 5% Haste effect for 10 seconds after hooking a Survivor. At 3 tokens, all Survivors suffer from the Exposed status effect. At 5 tokens, any Survivor, regardless of hook state, can be killed.
- Hex: Plaything (The Cenobite) – Upon hooking a Survivor for the first time a random Dull Totem on the map will become a Hex Totem, cursing the Survivor with the Oblivious status ailment until cleansed.
The Endgame Build
In a similar fashion to the Hex Build, the Endgame Build strategy involves taking on a bolder approach for an explosive triumph. If Survivors have completed all generators, eliminating the Obsession prior to the endgame results in amplified benefits from Freddy Krueger’s Remember Me and No Way Out perks. These perks dramatically impede exit gate progression. Simultaneously, Hex: No One Escapes Death wreaks havoc on Survivors’ health bars. This tactic can be thrilling; however, it comes with the understanding that a loss is a distinct possibility as one’s success relies heavily on this singular strategy.
- Deadlock (The Cenobite) – After a generator is repaired, the generator with the most progress is blocked for 25 seconds.
- No Way Out (The Trickster) – When a Survivor interacts with an exit gate at the end of the trial, the Killer will receive a noise notification and the exit gates will be blocked for 12 seconds, plus another 12 seconds for each new Survivor hooked.
- Remember Me (The Nightmare) – Each time the Obsession loses a health state, you gain one of up to four tokens. For each token, exit gate opening speeds are slowed by 6 seconds, up to 24 seconds. The Obsession is not affected by this slowdown.
- Hex: No One Escapes Death (General Perk) – After the final generator is completed, all Survivors suffer from the Exposed status ailment, and you gain a 4% Haste effect until the Hex Totem is cleansed.
The Obsession Build
The focus of this construction is on the Obsession – creeping up on victims, luring them in with hooks, and ultimately claiming their lives. Chucky’s Friend’s ’til the End ability exposes the Obsession whenever you hook someone except for them, and once you capture them, the obsession shifts to another player. Combined with Furtive Chase, you can quietly approach anyone who screams, gaining additional movement speed in the process. If you’re already a stealthy assassin, consider substituting Furtive Chase with Play with Your Food or Oni’s Nemesis instead. In the end, Rancor and No Way Out should guarantee an endgame kill, complete with a breathtaking Mori animation.
- Friends ‘til the End (The Good Guy) – After hooking a Survivor that is not the Obsession, the Obsession becomes Exposed for 20 seconds and reveals their aura for 10 seconds. After hooking the Obsession, another random Survivor screams, revealing their position and becoming the Obsession.
- Furtive Chase (The Ghost Face) – Upon hooking the Obsession, gain 5% Haste and become Undetectable for 18 seconds. When a Survivor unhooks the Obsession, they become the Obsession.
- Rancor (The Spirit) – Each time a generator is completed, the Killer sees all Survivors’ locations, and the Obsession sees the Killer’s aura for 3 seconds. Once all generators are completed, the Obsession is permanently Exposed and can be killed regardless of their hook stage.
- No Way Out (The Trickster) – When a Survivor interacts with an exit gate at the end of the trial, the Killer will receive a noise notification, and the exit gates will be blocked for 12 seconds, plus another 12 seconds for each new Survivor hooked.
The Stealth Build
In “Dead by Daylight,” survivors can evade killers by hiding and enduring. But killers don’t need to assume the roles of The Shape or The Ghost Face to catch survivors off-guard. With this effective build, killers can unexpectedly scare survivors and reintroduce terror into the game. With this setup, stepping on a generator will make you lose your Terror Radius and reveal any survivor in contact. Nowhere to Hide provides details about nearby survivors, while Pop Goes the Weasel grants benefits following a hook.
- Trail of Torment (The Executioner) – After kicking a generator, become Undetectable until the generator stops regressing or a Survivor touches it. This effect can be triggered once every 30 seconds.
- Nowhere to Hide (The Knight) – Kicking a generator will reveal the aura of all Survivors within 24 meters for 5 seconds.
- Dragon’s Grip (The Blight) – If a Survivor interacts with a recently kicked generator within 30 seconds, they scream and become Exposed for 60 seconds. This effect can be triggered every 40 seconds.
- Pop Goes the Weasel (The Clown) – For 45 seconds after hooking a Survivor, damaging a generator will remove 20% of its current progress.
The Basement Build
In a unique and significant way, the Basement Build enhances a more territorial gameplay approach, making it easier to tackle bothersome Buried Underground tome tasks. By utilizing a Bloodied Blueprint to generate the Basement at the Killer Shack, Agitation enables you to transport a Survivor towards harder-to-reach hooks, leading you closer to the basement. During your journey, obstacles in your path will face consequences from The Legion’s Mad Grit. In the very heart of the basement, Scourge Hook: Monstrous Shrine quickens the dying process and amplifies the value of Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance. This build thrives best when employed with a Killer who excels at area control, like The Trapper, or someone capable of protecting the basement effectively, such as The Huntress.
- Agitation (The Trapper) – While carrying a Survivor, the Killers’ movement speed is increased by 18%, and their Terror Radius is increased by 12 meters.
- Mad Grit (The Legion) – While carrying a Survivor, basic attacks have no cooldown, and hitting another Survivor pauses the carried Survivor’s wiggle progress for 4 seconds.
- Scourge Hook: Monstrous Shrine (General Perk) – Upon hooking a Survivor on one of four random white Scourge Hooks, the Survivor dies 20% faster when the Killer is not within 24 meters. Basement hooks are transformed into Scourge Hooks.
- Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance (The Artist) – The Killer starts with four tokens. For each different Survivor hooked on a white Scourge Hook, lose one token and explode the generator with the most progress, causing it to lose 25% of its progress.
