Borderlands 4’s boss fights are designed to be engaging and aren’t just about dealing a lot of damage quickly. They feature interesting mechanics that keep each fight feeling new. The first major boss you’ll encounter is Idolator Sol, a general of the Timekeepers. He’s heavily armored and initially immune to all damage, so you’ll need to figure out how to break through his defenses to defeat him. This guide will show you how to beat Idolator Sol and what rewards you’ll earn when you do.
Where to Find Idolator Sol Boss in Borderlands 4 (Location)
In Borderlands 4, players will fight the Idolator Sol boss during “Rush the Gate,” the game’s sixth main mission. You’ll lead an attack with the Outbounders to Fortress Indomita, then battle through enemy soldiers until you reach Idolator Sol’s ship. Once you stop the ship from launching, you’ll need to board it and find the boss arena, which is located nearby.

Once you reach the area with the vending machines and the downhill path, grab extra ammo and supplies before starting the fight. SMGs or Assault Rifles are the most effective weapons against Idolator Sol, because it’s difficult to get within close range without taking damage.
How to Beat Idolator Sol Boss in Borderlands 4

Idolator Sol is a massive boss completely covered in incredibly strong armor that can’t be damaged directly. To hurt him, players must first remove the armor to reveal his vulnerable core. The fight happens in three stages, each represented by a health bar. Let’s start by looking at all of Idolator Sol’s attacks, and then we’ll discuss strategies for defeating him.
All Idolator Sol Boss Attacks
Attack Image | Move Name | Attack Pattern | How to Dodge |
---|---|---|---|
![]() |
Shield Bash | Idolator Sol will wield his shield and charge towards players. | The boss will charge in a straight line, so simply dodge away from his path. |
![]() |
Sword Spin | The boss will materialize a sword into the air and then swipe it around the arena in a large AOE. | The AOE of the sword spin attack is too wide for players to run or dodge away from it. Instead, quickly gain height by double-jumping into the air and hovering for a while. |

Locust Beam | Idolator Sol will charge up an energy beam into his left hand and shoot at the players. While the direction of the beam is static in the first phase, it’ll hone on the player’s locations in the later phases. | In the first phase, players will get visible cues when the boss is charging up the beam, so dodging sideways will work just fine. For the homing variant of the attack, players will need to constantly run sideways to avoid getting hit. |

Ground Spikes | The boss will strike its fist into the ground and create spikes that will protrude from the ground. There’s another version of this attack that will shatter the ground with Locust energy, but no spikes. | Similar to Locust Beam, the visual cues for this attack will be clear. So, make sure to jump and then dodge away to create distance between you and the boss. |

Thunder Call | During phase 2 of the fight, Idolator Sol will cover the area in Locust energy and raise his hand in the air, about to rain down Locust-infused thunderbolts. | Players will need to quickly spot the designated glowing area and head inside it to shield themselves from the thunderous attack. |

Impaler Rods | Throughout the fight, the boss will bring down a row of red Impaler Rods, with one green rod carrying a Lostcust Canister. As the fight progresses, the rows will increase in number with Phase two having two rows, and phase three calling down three rows of rods. | This is the easiest attack to dodge as players will see a clear projection of where the rods will fall on the field. This attack is also the primary way to strip away Idolator Sol’s armor and make him vulnerble to damage (more on that below). |
Best Strategy to Beat Idolator Sol
In *Borderlands 4*, the most important thing players can do when fighting Idolator Sol is to stay far away from him. Getting too close will cause him to stomp, which will hurt you. Instead, wait for him to use his Impaler Rods attack.
Avoid the areas lit by the rods, and especially keep an eye out for the one that glows green. When you see it, use your grapple to pull the Locust canister free and then throw it at Idolator Sol to remove their armor.
To defeat Idolator Sol quickly, throw the Locust canister at either his upper chest to reveal his head, or his stomach area to hit the weak spots on his sides. Hitting these areas will cause significant damage. Once you’ve reduced his health by three bars, he’ll be defeated.
