Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered Removes AI Content After Lawsuit

Aspyr took out AI-created content from the Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered collection after being sued for including it. Artificial intelligence is appearing in games more and more as the technology improves, and while its use is often debated, some games have received stronger negative reactions than others. In the case of Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, it resulted in both criticism and legal action.

The first three *Tomb Raider* games were remastered in early 2024 and received mostly positive feedback. Aspyr then remastered the next three games in 2025, but *Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered* received mixed reviews, with some critics questioning whether the changes were actually improvements. However, the game is now facing a bigger problem: a scandal involving artificial intelligence. Aspyr is currently working to resolve the issue before it escalates.

Tomb Raider IV-VI Removes the AI Voice Acting at the Center of Its Ongoing Lawsuit

Aspyr, the company behind the remastered Tomb Raider collection, has removed all AI-generated voice acting after a legal dispute. French voice actor Françoise Cadol sued Aspyr because they used AI to recreate her voice in *Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered* without her consent. Cadol only discovered the AI version of her voice when fans alerted her following an update in August 2025. She is now seeking information on how many copies of the game have been sold to ensure she receives fair compensation.

The recent update for the game, which first revealed the use of AI, included new voice recordings that players noticed. This wasn’t the first time the game has been updated with extra content – a previous update for *Tomb Raider I-II Remastered* brought back previously cut dialogue. It’s currently unknown how much of this new and restored dialogue was created using AI – whether it’s all of it, or just certain lines. Regardless, the use of AI in the game, to whatever extent, has sparked a lot of discussion among fans.

It’s not yet known how Aspyr’s decision to remove AI-generated content will impact the ongoing lawsuit. The game update simply states that the use of this technology wasn’t approved. Tomb Raider isn’t the only game facing criticism for using generative AI; Blizzard recently pulled an Overwatch 2 ad due to an AI art controversy, and Microsoft has been criticized for potentially replacing workers with AI. The future of AI in gaming is uncertain, but it’s clear that many fans and artists within the industry are concerned about its use.
